Zogby: Catholics Swing To McCain by Double Digits
According to Zogby, The McCain/Palin ticket wins 49.7% support, compared to 45.9% backing for the Obama/Biden ticket. That's big news.
But I found something even more interesting in the swing of the Catholic vote in this survey towards McCain and away from Obama, a former community organizer.
Pollster John Zogby writes: Clearly, Palin is helping the McCain ticket. She has high favorability numbers, and has unified the Republican Party. The striking thing here in this poll is that McCain has pulled ahead among Catholics by double-digits. On the other hand, Palin is not helping with likely voting women who are not aligned with either political party. The undecided independent women voters decreased this week from 15% to 7%, but those women went to Obama.
I haven't been able to study the cross tabs on this to find out the actual numbers but I found this of interest as the Catholic vote has been much discussed this election year. I will keep looking for the numbers.
Somewhere, I know, Doug Kmiec is spitting out his coffee this morning into his copy of the New York Times.

Just heard on Fox that we should be expecting a pretty substantial McCain convention bounce, and Doug Schoen was on saying that is the word in the world of pollsters. He also said the trend seems to be going McCain.
While all the worldly-wise pundits were debating whether Palin would help draw Hillary voters, they missed the key swing block that Palin helps draw over to McCain - blue collar Catholic Dems in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In other words, the block that helped elect Bush in 2004 in Ohio. Now PA and MI are in play for McCain as well. If McCain wins either state, IMO the election is over.
You mean 45.9% of Catholics would trade a trip to heaven for an Obama presidency? B-Zar!

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.

I will be blunt: women instinctively dislike women whom they suspect to be more attractive or more appealing to men than they are. This is a basic fact of human nature being played out in every high school in America as we speak.
She - and her husband - appeal to blue-collar white ethnic men and the old Reagan Democrats. A tomboy beauty queen is exactly the kind of person to appeal to this crowd - especially since they had been primed by Democrats for months to consider voting for a woman.
One of the best things the McCain campaign could do in MI, OH and PA is to have Todd Palin stump for the ticket.
No long speeches - just have him come up and say a few words.
That’ll hurt obama in must-have Pennsylvania.
Maybe a death trip but, heaven?
Perhaps it's out of guilt, plus 40 acres and a mule is not practical..........
A friend of mine who is Catholic had an answer for this just yesterday. He said he had been to a couple church events in the past week and was horrified to learn that quite a few people (he said they get the majority of their news from CNN) actually believed Obama was the pro-life candidate and were quite enthusiastic in their support for him. He tried to set them straight.
Not being Catholic myself, I don't know. But I have seen that people who follow the MSM may have no idea what Obama believes in, but they're convinced it's really good, whatever it is.
I went to GOP headquarters to begin my volunteer stint yesterday and I was amazed at the number of people I saw from my parish (even though we have a left-wing bishop).
The 49.7 and 45 are overall, not the Catholic poll numbers. (The first clue should have been that the difference between the two numbers does not equal double digits.)
Read the source a little more closely. The 45% for Obama is among the general population. The lead among Catholics is 10% or more.
No, the numbers you about are the overall numbers. Zogby hasn’t broken out the Catholic numbers in the part we can see, he just mentions them.
I agree, based on years of amusing observation. But single women seem married to the gubbermint so would be expected to vote rat regardless.
“women instinctively dislike women whom they suspect to be more attractive or more appealing to men than they are.”
Sad to say I agree with you generally. The airheads supporting Obama whose primary concern is their next bikini wax will continue to support Obama. But the women who care about their kids’ futures, the future of the country, and are logical thinkers, won’t care about Palin’s attractiveness. They’ll do the right thing based on facts.
