St. Francis’s were different, they were protrusions in the shape of nails. I don’t know if there was blood.

I remember reading some time ago in a newspaper that a person claimed to have known Padre Pio that the Stigmata was faked (i.e. deliberately caused). Presumably these allegations were duly investigated and dismissed as unreliable. What happened with this aspect of the story in the beatification process?
