Bishop Martin D. Holley, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, issued a statement responding to a report by Planned Parenthood's Guttmacher Institute showing that black women have abortions at five times the rate of white women.
"The number one cause of death in the African American community has been abortion. We have lost over 13 million lives. To put that in perspective, it is one third of our present Black population," wrote the bishop. "It [abortion] clearly must be at the heart and center of our discussion of the survival of African American people."
Bishop Holley serves as Chair of the Sub-Committee on African American Affairs and is a member of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The bishop condemned the $300 million of federal government funding poured into Planned Parenthood every year, and vowed to "join my voice with others in the Black community who have called for the defunding of the abortion industry."

AMEN! I had a heated discussion with a woman about this issue last week. She was voting obama “because he is black of course” I explained his views on partial birth abortion, infanticide, and the freedom of choice act. She claimed to be pro life but still wanted to vote obama. I then asked her why she thought there were no abortion clinics in my area but there were several in the area she lived in, asked her if she knew abortion was a genocide of her race in america created by whites to control black populations, and that obama wanted to lift all controls on it? She said nothing further. Pray she had her heart moved and will speak to others. Race does NOT matter, LIFE matters!

Or is it that they could not get legislation passed to halt such funding? That’s not their fault. It’s Reids’s and Pelosi’s fault. In fact, all the dimocrats’ faults.
I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Alveda King, MLK’s niece last night at a charity banquet for a pro-life crises pregnancy center. This center sits right next door to the busiest abortion center in our state. They have severely curtailed the activity at the abortion clinic which in the past three years has had to shorten its hours. Praise God!
Dr. King spoke of the holocaust within the black community and the sadness her uncle and father would feel if they knew what had happened since their deaths. She is raising her voice in defense of all the unborn, but especially the little black children the black community has lost. Have they lost another Martin Luther King? Most likely.
Every day we see the disregard for human life played out in the urban communities mostly populated by blacks. This is just another result of abortion and not at all surprising.
Bishop Holley, Huntly Brown, Alveda King and other black pastors and leaders are finally speaking truth to power regarding the greatest civil rights abuse of our times.
May God Bless them and may He use their words to soften the hearts so dulled by sin they do not see the evil of abortion.
