Nancy Pelosi Meets Pope Benedict and A Prayer for Public Officials (Catholic Caucus)
ewtn ^ | Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Posted on 02/20/2009 8:59:45 PM PST by Coleus

On February 18th the meeting many Catholics dreaded occurred. Mercifully, the Vatican had the wisdom to forbid cameras or reporters into the 15 minute meet and greet. Had a picture emerged, it would have certainly been used to somehow cast Speaker Pelosi's positions on abortion and contraception as being within the realm of Catholic Orthodoxy. What was most instructive was the dueling press releases in the wake of the visit. The Vatican got theirs out first: "His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in co-operation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

But the press release issued later in the day by Speaker Pelosi's office makes it sound as if she and the Pope attended a photo sharing tea at the Sierra Club headquarters. Note the absence of any mention of "human life", "abortion", or St. Augustine's theories on ensoulment:

“It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today. In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel. I was proud to show his Holiness a photograph of my family's Papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren."

More than 50 years later it is wonderful that Mrs. Pelosi was able to show the Pope pictures of her ancestors. But given the Speaker's public policy preferences, it is doubtful that the poor men and women Pelosi purports to serve will have any descendants to show their pictures 50 years hence.

Here is Bishop Baker's prayer for public officials. And God knows they could use prayers...

A Pro-Life Prayer for Our President and Public Officials

Lord God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life, move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our President, to fulfill their responsibilities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care. Help them in their special leadership roles, to extend the mantle of protection to the most vulnerable, especially the defenseless unborn, whose lives are threatened with extermination by an indifferent society. Guide all public officials by your wisdom and grace to cease supporting any law that fails to protect the fundamental good that is human life itself, which is a gift from God and parents. You are the Protector and Defender of the lives of the innocent unborn. Change the hearts of those who compromise the call to protect and defend life. Bring our nation to the values that have made us a great nation, a society that upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Mary, the Mother of the living, help us to bear witness to the Gospel of Life with our lives and our laws, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Imprimatur: January 22, 2009 + Most Reverend Robert J. Baker Bishop of Birmingham in Alabama

Pelosi is absolutely despicable. She pretends to be a Catholic for political gain, yet goes against the church on most of its major issues like abortion and homosexuality. She should have been embarrassed to be in the same room with the pope, but she probably thought he was getting a big thrill meeting HER!

My wife insists she did indeed see a picture on one of the television news shows, of The Holy Father greeting Drumhead Face.

Photoshop from our wonderfully unbiased media??

She's Catholic? How & why did she get an audience with the Pope?

So, what happens if she confessed her sins to the Pope?

I hope there were a ton... TON... of Our Father's going out and up while she was there.

Jesus would have thrown her out of the temple of the Lord.
Just as he turned over the tables of the moneychangers.

This may be a photo from last year when the pope came to visit the US, including Washington. As I recall, Speaker Pelosi did meet him, wearing her saintly looking veil, all aglow, and kissed his ring. This I saw in the news and was quite sickened by the sight.

I think the picture you saw of her kissing his ring was back when he met with President Bush and Ms. Pelosi was there too. There were NO pictures this go round. She met him after his Wednesday audience, which is in a large auditorium room with many, many people from all over the world. He gave her 15 minutes afterwards in a room with no reporters or cameras.

The Pope should have informed Shrieker Pelosi that as of that very moment, that he was personally directing that she be officially excommunicated from the Church, and that she needs to stop advocating the murder of babies.

No reporters or photographers were allowed in the private meeting. It might have been when she was in the public audience outside in St. Peter Square.

Yes, that was what my wife observed.

The point being, Pelosi DID get her photo-op.

No, she really didn’t. One of the highlights of a private audience with the Pope is to have a photograph taken with him.

Pope Benedict snubbed Pelosi and did not let that happen. Bravo for Pope Benedict!

Ah, but the vast majority of the US population is not nearly as sophisticated and knowledgeable as you about all things Catholic.

Yes, she did not get the “official” photo, but she did score a picture of the smiling Pope extending his hand to her. Sufficient for her shallow and calculating purposes.

Yes, bravo to the Holy Father for firing one over her bow. I am keenly anxious to see what the follow-up will be.

The Pope should have publicly admonished her. It sure seems the Catholic Church has surrendered to the abortionists. Perhaps Pope Benedict should read Revelation 2:19-23. Who do you think Jezebel is, metaphorically speaking?

I’d like to believe there is a special place in Hades for that womb-scraping baby butcherer to rot in excrement for eternity.

Catholic Group Petitions Pope to Excommunicate Nancy Pelosi

snip
Maurice Healy, spokesman for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, confirmed to CNSNews.com that Archbishop Neiderauer met with Pelosi in private on Feb. 8. While details of that “pastoral-private” meeting cannot be disclosed, said Healy, he added that it would be correct, in this matter, to reference the bishop’s Sept. 5 statement that publicly corrected Pelosi’s comments about the church’s position on abortion – a statement in which the archbishop also invited Pelosi to meet with him to discuss the issue.

Inquiries to Pelosi’s office on this story were not answered before this story went to press. Questions to Maurice Healy about HLI’s appeal for Pelosi’s excommunication and the topic of prohibiting her from receiving communion were also not returned as this story went to press.

Fr. Euteneur told CNSNews.com that “when people call for excommunication it’s not because they’re just angry or have some political ax to grind against some political officials who call themselves Catholic. These are real serious concerns for the faith of millions of people, and a real cause to do so, according to church law, but we can’t do it ourselves because we’re not bishops.”

After Pelosi met with Pope Benedict in Rome on Wednesday, the Vatican released the following statement about the meeting: “His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.”

I'm not Catholic, so I don't know about this stuff. I didn't honestly know this lady was Catholic, and quite frankly was shocked she was/is.
Sounds to me like there might be a little bit of woodshed talk going on.

Heck, if that Froggie Ted Kennedy gets to stay... she will too.
