Earlier this week the New York Times dropped the news that Newt Gingrich will soon become Catholic (which I had rumored before), and I blogged about it. I can now add some more details. Mr. Gingrich has regularly been seen attending Mass at the National Shrine here in Washington DC (inculding once by yours truly). He'll be entering the Church on Sunday, March 29th in DC.

he wants to be a Kennedy.
I forgot. I’m such an idiot today.
how many wives did reagan have?
Do you know how many wives Reagan had?
we have a communist in the white house and you are worried about newt?
It’s my understanding that he has already gone through the anullment process and this his marriage has been regularized.
I have no problem with politicians being divorced. It’s when they are carrying on affairs while they are still married.
Newt Gingrich will be at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY on March 36th, 7:30, Colgate Chapel. Any central New Yorkers in the area should attend.
What calender might you be using Madam Secretary, if I may ask?
I live in North Carolina. Newt has spoken here, and I’d have been interested in hearing him, but I have a lot of kids.
Oh, the one with the broken keyboard, LOL. I meant the 26th. Sorry. Gotta quit drinking.
Before he was a Catholic he was a Serial Polygamist, which is accepted in most Protestant denominations.
OK, aside from Newt's marital....er...ya know......this looks like it could be interesting. I wonder if his conversion can be traced to JPII's life and pilgrimages and his facing down the Soviet red dragon?.
I don't see how anyone who's ever seen film of JPII's return to Poland in '79 and the extraordinary scenes which surrounded him could fail to be moved by it.
I'm sure it will be interesting.
Knowing what a historian Newt Gingrich is, I am not surprised at his decision. He obviously had been searching for the answers and finally found them in the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church!
He deserves the best.
Best to Mr. Gingrich. There is nothing quite like the gift of faith. I am always impressed with thoughtful people who convert later in life.
The RCC is pretty demanding of its adherents, and it takes a certain maturity to follow faithfully. To take on that responsibility as a matter of faith says much about the convert. Converts sometimes brag (with just cause) that they are more faithful than those born into the faith.
Evidently Mr. Bainbridge does not know of the REAL Catholic Church being underground in China at this very moment. The one that the world sees is monitored and condoned by the commies.
He has probably already been through the annulments or this wouldn’t be happening.
Did you know President Reagan wasn’t a Roman Catholic?
Certainly as much as any of us do! I hope he will be very happy, and faithful, as a Catholic. Why would anyone wish otherwise?
