The American Life League is calling for the University of Notre Dame to be removed from the official list of Catholic institutions after the university invited President Obama, an abortion-rights supporter, to give the commencement address.
The group, a Catholic pro-life organization, said in a statement Wednesday that removing the school from the Official Catholic Directory would cut Notre Dame off from a lot of Catholic foundation funding.

Sorry if double
Keep the pressure on!
Who wants a baby killer as a speaker to a Catholic school?
Awesome news. Good. Too many Catholics are working so hard to protect babies for the church to turn their back on teh faithful and babies.
Meanwhile the STINKING Notre Dame sports franchise is promoting a pro-partial birth abortionist and pro-post birth murder proponent & Islamist.
Washington, DC (08 April 2009) – American Life League wants the University of Notre Dame removed from the Official Catholic Directory (Kennedy Directory) – the official list of Catholic institutions in the United States.
Removal from the Kennedy Directory by Bishop John D’Arcy will cut the school off from much Catholic foundation funding.
The call comes a week after American Life League went on location to interview Notre Dame’s student body after news rocked the Catholic world that pro-abortion President Barack Obama was invited to address the graduating class and receive an honorary degree from one of the nation's most identifiable Catholic universities.
While 25 bishops have condemned the school’s actions and hundreds of thousands of Catholic faithful are calling for the invitation to be rescinded, the report shows a student body divided by the school’s institutionalized opposition to Catholic teaching and their desire to restore Catholicism to Our Lady’s University.
“We found a tragic attitude at the University of Notre Dame – apathy, if not hostility, toward the faith,” said Judie Brown, president of ALL. “In the service of truth, we ask Bishop D’Arcy to acknowledge what the entire nation and Notre Dame itself already know: The university is backing away from the Catholic Church.”
“In light of Notre Dame’s past in the service of Our Lady, what is now keeping Notre Dame Catholic? Not the president who honors a man guilty of promoting an intrinsic evil; not the faculty – notoriously liberal. The hope of Notre Dame lies with the students faithful to the mission of the Church,” Brown said. “For their sake we hope and pray Notre Dame rescinds this honor to President Obama and upholds the Catholic identity that made the school one of the glories of the Catholic Church. If the university will not do this, then it should be removed from the Official Catholic Directory.”
American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death. I hope there will be a VERY LARGE PRO-LIFE demonstration at ND on May 17.
While I think this would be great, I don’t think it will happen. Sadly the leaders of the Catholic Church enjoy rubbing elbows with people like Obama, Biden, Hilery and their ilk.
Pro-abortion supporters should be told to leave the church.
Must be awful not to feel welcomed somewhere...
“He came to his own, and his own knew him not”
No, that doesnt work...
“A prophet is not welcome in his own town...”
No. wrong town...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
ND have backed themselves into a corner. Removing the name Catholic appears to be all that’s left, except perhaps Mary Glendon, who by some slim chance may be an ace in the hole, for all of us. She a well respected Harvard Law Professor, very pro-life, and speaks prior to Obama. I don’t know if she cares about embarrassing him or not - something tells me - not. I know Archbishop D’Arcy encouraged her to attend.
Easier to remove the modernist fruitcake president and return the campus property to proper Catholic authorities in full communion with the Church and the Catholic faith.
Yeah, somehow I don’t think that a pro-life diplomat speaking before Obama — whose speech is not going to be covered by the media or responded to by Obama — is going to amount to a hill of beans.
How do you propose to remove him?
Good, nice to see people taking a stand (and I know other Catholic groups are opposing the Obama commencement as well).
An editor of America was removed when his positions were found to be at variance with church teachings. Charles Curran was stripped of his status and can no longer teach at Catholic institutions. There is precedent. The "problems" in the Legion of Christ have also prompted Vatican investigations. It would be worth pursuing. Priestly faculties can be removed and various other penalties. The Pope can issue a letter, officially promulgated, declaring that only Catholics in good standing in full communion with the Church may make administrative and executive decisions for Catholic colleges and universities.
Yes, Fr. Jenkins can and ought to receive a canonical penalty, but removing him from the presidency of the university is not one of them. I’d venture a guess that that is for the Board of Trustees who are not answerable to anyone.
Just wrong.
I hope this works.
“Yeah, somehow I dont think that a pro-life diplomat speaking before Obama whose speech is not going to be covered by the media or responded to by Obama is going to amount to a hill of beans.”
Yeah, well I tried, though it was a bit of a stretch. :)
