Notre Dame's Fr. Jenkins meeting with Obama in DC today?

UPDATE, 4:25p: From Joseph Lawler (Phil's son) at the American Spectator:

... This is still merely a rumor, but indeed FlightAware shows the ND jet flying to Dulles this morning....

That Fr. Jenkins would rescind the invitation seems unlikely given that on Saturday Fr. Jenkins reaffirmed his invitation to a crowd celebrating black student-athletes at Notre Dame that "shook down the thunder" with applause. But then what could they be talking about? If there is any change in the status of Obama's invitation, it's big news.

Well this is very interesting. Could it be possible that Barry won't attend after all?

Maybe someone pulled rank on Padre John. "Sorry Barry, my boss won't let me."

He speaks at Georgetown and makes them cover up the Cross. He speaks at ND and gets an honorary degree. (As we used to say about football, ND sucks).

I think he’s LOOKING for a fight with the Catholics. May be peeved we didn’t represent at his inauguration.

the ND jet flying to Dulles this morning.

Shouldn't Jenkins be traveling in a hybrid car?

That CINO Jenkins has been called in to advise JINO Georgetown on how best to advance Catholic education by giving the shaft to B16 and the bishops - and get away with it.

Interesting, thanks for posting! I am hoping that this might mean that Jenkins has been told he cannot present Obama with the degree, and that Obama will therefore cancel (which I think he would do if he couldn’t get the honorary degree).

However, realistically speaking, I doubt it...Jenkins probably just went to reassure Bambi that all was cool and those nasty obstreperous folks weren’t going to disrupt his moment.

I heard that over 17 major donors have already pulled their gifts this year. (Relevant Radio Source...) There could be a shake-up going on. At any rate at this point there is almost a half million signatures protesting the appearance of Obambi.

I am heartened by that, but would be more pleased to see that this Obambi thing never comes off.

At any rate its good to see Catholics and committed Christians take a stand.

I have emailed both the Superior General (in Rome, Italy) of the Holy Cross Congregration, and Father John Jenkins about Canon 916 and Father John Jenkins.

I firmly believe that Father Jenkins is in serious sin. Some have disputed this with me, but Father Jenkins has disobeyed the 2004 directive from the USCCB on two major accounts -- giving the Honorary Law Degree and also giving Obama the honor of giving the Commencement talk at Notre Dame (a Catholic University).

Marymount Manhattan College got kicked out of the Catholic Church for inviting Hillary Clinton to give the commencement in 2005. Cardinal Egan did that...

Additionally, Father John Jenkins has caused a great scandal in the Roman Catholic Church...

Do you agree or disagree?

I believe that Father John Jenkins will be forced to resign over this.

Additionally, there will be some sort of committee set up to oversee such activities in coming years at Notre Dame -- to "approve" who gives a commencement.

On the downside, Georgetown is going to give pro-abort VP Joe Biden an honoary degree...

We are overlooking a very big reason for Father John Jenkins to go to Washington, DC.

That would be the "Apostolic Annuncio"

The way that Pope Benedict would convey a very urgent message quickly (and directly) would be by such a meeting.

Such a meeting would be likely, as a representative of the USCCB could also attend, as well as a representative for Bishop D'Arcy (Diocese of Fort Wayne/South Bend).

In other words, Being asked to see the "Apostolic Annuncio" would be a way of Pope Benedict being able to "privately" reprimand Father Jenkins (in a sense)...

I heard that over 17 major donors have already pulled their gifts this year.

That's the only thing that will make an impression. But I think Jenkins is so arrogant and desirous of his 15 minutes that he is going to try to make this go ahead no matter what. His response - or non-response, actually - to everything from the bishops to committees of students indicates to me that this has now become a personal power issue for him and that unless he is stopped from the outside by a direct order (from his superiors, perhaps; where are they?) he will go ahead with it.

One of the things that really amazes me is how loudly Jenkins is announcing that, in the choice between the Church and Obama, he has chosen Obama and nothing said by anyone in the Church will have any effect on him. The fact that he is so confident makes me wonder how many other people there are like him in the upper ranks of the Church.

We were warned many times over the past 2,000 or so years, that this day would come. Seeing important church people sucking upto the Antichrist is hardly a surprise. Seeing others rise up to stop them — now THAT is a surprise that I hope continues.

That's true. I guess I just never thought it would happen here and now. But we never do, I suppose.

I think Georgetown is disappointed that not much fuss is being made over the award to Biden. The truth is, people stopped taking Gtown seriously as a Catholic school decades ago. Gtown wants big press for the Biden award, and everybody is just yawning.

Well, I would say that is foolish if you want the baby butchery mills working at maximum. I would think he would not want large public debates about abortion which let folks know that there really are tons of folks who think it is murder.

OK, I won’t do this often, but I’m going to give that man a pass on the covering of the crucifix. Can you imagine the outrage we would be expressing if he had given a speech and been photographed, not just with that darn halo he keeps showing up with, but taking it a step further, with the Cross of Our Lord and IHS up behind his head? He was in a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation there.

I will say this — why did he have to speak in front of it, and why did he have to go get in Georgetown’s face in the first place? Obama, leave Catholics alone. Stop persecuting us.
