...when folks observe holidays and religious festivals invented by mankind...

Who is that? The Scientologists?

Easter Sunday, Sunday as the Lord's Day, Christmas...these are all creations of God, through His Church.

...who does He think He is, anyway?

Leader of the Catholic Church.

[I Papacy 1:11]. Read it aloud! "Do not honor God anymore by observing His Holy Days and Sabbaths. Instead honor the Church of Rome and all our Pomp and Tradition." I knew I could find it.
All this does is serve to mock Christ's Church, and you made it all up.

Many of these same folks no doubt deny the holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit

No doubt at all.

You have to do a little digging, because the site the original linked article is from is pretty cagey about it. No statement of belief that I could find. The David J. Smith that it focuses on looks to be a leader of a small schism from Herbert J. Armstrong's cult, decades back.

Thanks for the insight, Geerhardus Vos has some good teaching.

And that's about as far as I've gotten in Vos' Biblical Theology as of yet. Easier reading than his Pauline Eschatology though.

I found his exposition of the Decalogue striking.

FWIY Meredith Kline has a different take on the first day assembly, regarding it as an "octave day" assembly, and provides examples of such from the Israelite festival cycle.

Both Israel's Sabbath and the church's ocavized first day lift up the eyes of God's people to the consummation of Har Magedon. The Sabbath points to the consummation as completion, as arrival at the eschatological goal of the original creation. The octave dominical day points to the consummation as commencement, as the launching into the realm of the new creation. Or better, it presages the unending continuance, the everlastingness, of the consummated cosmos. --God, Heaven and Har Magedon, Wipf & Stock, 2006, p. 198.

As with Vos the focus is eschatological.

pinging the GRPL

Not sure how many of those saints are still active, alas. Maybe I'm following the wrong threads.

...and are convinced the light of the gospel was pretty well extinguished from AD 325 to the 1800s (poor pitiful Holy Spirit just couldn’t keep it going, eh?...

I guess when your dead to sin, its like having your head stuck in the ground. You can't see the light. I guess all we can do is pray that some day the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sins and they will pull their head out of the dark ages.

Irony is Ellen G. White wrote a book "The Desire of the Ages", maybe a parody title should be "The Desire to get out of the Dark Ages"

Diego et al. have yet to answer the plain meaning of the Apostle Paul to the Colossians where he COMMANDS:

You know....It's considered good manners to ping some one when you mention their name. Especially when you speak disparagingly of them!

“Therefore don’t let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day. These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is the Messiah.” (Col. 2:16, 17) This is probably one of the goofiest passages to use when attempting to prove up your position.....as it proves just the opposite!

(Verse 8) "Paul speaks of Hollow and deceptive philosophy". Oh yeah.....that sure sounds like something God would come up with.....doesn't it?

(Verse 14) "Christ has canceled the written code and its regulations." The Greek word is "Dogma".....man made law....not divine Law.

(Verse 16) Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days. Can you not see that Paul is telling these previously Pagan citizens of Colosse not to pay any attention to criticism of their participating in the celebration of God's Festivals, Sabbaths and new Moon celebrations?

Paul is not telling them to ignore these things.....he is telling them to how celebrate these things. They had not even known about them until they were converted from their pagan past! Paul was an Apostle to the Gentiles!

Christians are Catholic or Protestant

Thank you, I guess.

Currently taking a break from Vos to read the Sadoleto Calvin exchange.

I'm not sure either, don't seem to get the same amount of ping notices as I use to and it doesn't seem to be that active looking at the posting in the religion section. Maybe I'm just blind or something, I don't think I was ever really in the buddy buddy with the group anyway. I'm not the quickest and brightest like most of those individuals in the group, well at least they appear to be pretty bright to me.

Wow!

That Herb Armstrong sure had a genius-level talent for turning plain language exactly on its head....very common in cult leadership.

Of course, the context of the entire chapter puts the lie to that misinterpretation sure enough.

But hey, A for effort. LOL

What do you think about the order of Salvation from the physical death of Christ to the Resurrection. Did Christ enter heaven inbetween his death and Resurrection or was he figuratively sleeping in the grave.

I’d have to contemplate that for a good long while, and any answer I give would be speculative. “If it breaks, you get to keep the pieces.”

The fanatics that argue violently on this thread show their own disregard of holy Scripture.

Diego et al. have yet to answer the plain meaning of the Apostle Paul to the Colossians where he COMMANDS:

“Therefore don’t let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day. These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is the Messiah.” (Col. 2:16, 17)

Many of these same folks no doubt deny the holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit (since the word “trinity” is itself not in the bible), and ultimately the full divinity of Jesus Christ—and are convinced the light of the gospel was pretty well extinguished from AD 325 to the 1800s (poor pitiful Holy Spirit just couldn’t keep it going, eh? Wasn’t very “good news” since the devil prevailed for over 1000 years, eh?)— much like the LDS and other cults think.

Jesus saves, not the Law. Those who try to live by the law, will be killed by it... Thanks be to God the Holy Spirit frees us to live as God the Father wants in the light and power of the Resurrection of Jesus...on Sunday.

Are you suggesting
that Sha'ul had the authority
to correct and overrule
YHvH on the day of Worship ?

I think not.

re: Col 2:16-17
What Sha'ul was correcting were
the Traditions of Man
as defined by the Pharisees.
"kashrut" is a Pharisaical/Rabbinical Tradition of Man.

NAsbU John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
I follow the commandments of Yah'shua
However I know I can can cover my sins with the Blood of the Lamb of G-d.

Anyone who rejects the commandments of YHvH is lawless

NAU 2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers;
for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness,
or what fellowship has light with darkness?
Yah'shua rose from the dead on the YHvH commanded Feast of First Fruits.

See Exod. 23:16, 19; 34:22, 26; Lev. 2:12; 23:10, 17, 20; Num. 18:12; 28:26;
Deut. 18:4; 2 Ki. 4:42; 2 Chr. 31:5; Neh. 10:35; 12:44; 13:31; Ps. 105:36;
Ezek. 44:30; Rom. 8:23; 1 Co. 15:20, 23; 16:15; Jas. 1:18; Rev. 14:4

In regards to posting 84, at first I thought this was a thread by a Seventh Day Adventist by I see now that it isn’t. Making mention of Ellen G. White would not make sense to most on thread.

The authority comes from Christ who gave the Apostles the authority to loose and bind.

You'll have to point me to a specific passage where He gave them the authority to amend the Ten Commandments.

And then show me where they did.

No, the Torah has a lot to say about the laws of Kashrut.

Perhaps. But Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, rose from the dead on the third day, Sunday, now known in English as Easter Sunday.

“Therefore don’t let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a sabbath day. These are a shadow of what was to come; the substance is the Messiah.” (Col. 2:16, 17)

So why are you judging us who honor the Sabbath? For too long this has been read by "Sunday" apologists in their favor... rather it is speaking positively. The "Shadow-caster" is Messiah. They show His outline... why is Paul's statement not in the positive? In the context of Colossians 2, he is arguing against the philosophies of MEN, not the commandments of the Almighty. Within those philosophies, those "beggardly elements" are found the platonic "earth, wind, and fire" teachings that are the anti-theseis of the Scripture. CONTEXT is king, and for too long Colossians 2 has been read OUT of context.
