Just attended the baccalaureate for my youngest son today on high school graduation.....

He has a 4.0 GPA with AP courses and lettered in two sports (football and track).

He will be attending Western Carolina University and playing football and track.

There was nothing in Fr. Jenkins’ speech that would lead anyone to conclude that he is a Catholic priest. He has completely become just another liberal academician and Democrat apologist.

some of them will be less elated when they are forced by federal law to participate in abortion, homosexual indoctrination and euthanasia as “civil rights” and citizen obligations

Mostly it will be the ones who cannot capitalize or punctuate.

They are always the first to be culled from the herd.

Oh, the Lord is not hurt. He knows His own, and is allowing His enemies to store of judgment for themselves for the Day of Wrath. He will make everything right, and every deed will be recompensed. It will be a day of ultimate dread for some, and all-surpassing joy for others.

Pray His will be done, and if He wills it, that loved ones we know will be regenerated to faith.

Rest knowing He is in control of all things.

Do not despair, tender heart.

"And what, exactly, do you recommend?

The first thing to do is NOT to nominate a GOP candidate who's older than dirt - that's a start.

Second, racial diversity is very important to the younger generation. Whatever the GOP is doing to recruit candidates of color, they need to triple their efforts. So long as the GOP puts up the old, white guys, the young people aren't going to listen.

Third, the GOP has to find a way of talking about the environment in a more sensitive way. No one is saying that AGW needs to be embraced, but we can't continue to call environmental wackos well, environmental wackos.

Lastly, whomever grabs the reigns of the GOP, needs to explain why lower taxes, less regulation and fiscal responsibility are important. It's not enough to be for those philosophical tenants. A successful candidate has to be articulate enough to explain why those principles are important and compelling enough so that the people that have never voted Republican might actually start.

McCain won 57% of the white vote, and an even greater percentage of white people over the age of 29. If demographic trends continue, the next GOP candidate could win 58% or even 60% of the white vote and still lose - in an electoral landslide.

"Just to give you an skin-thickening inoculation against what's coming your way any moment now:

I hope not. Of course, you're always going to have the comments from the usual suspects.

I'm not sure when it became en vogue for conservatives to lampoon common sense. Common sense tells anyone that a 35(ish) point deficit with any demographic, but especially the younger demographic who will be voting for the longest period of time, is a real problem for the GOP. Especially considering that there's no reason to believe that the next wave of new voters is going to vote any differently than the last.

The GOP has some issues with these freshly minted voters, and anyone who thinks that it's either irrelevant or immaterial is just whistling past the graveyard.

Has Notre Dame lost its moral authority?

It is very sad. But America elected this pro-abortionist to office. What does that say about America? Notre Dame is just the tip of the iceberg.

I am a Catholic but not a Notre Dame Catholic.

Regardless of Jenkin’s decisions, you need to keep in mind that this was a graduation ceremony and not an Obama rally supporting his values and policies.

Regardless of Jenkin’s decisions, you need to keep in mind that this was a graduation ceremony November 4, 2008 was just an election and not an Obama rally supporting his values and policies.

Actually from the reaction of those in attendance, I think this was an Obama rally supporting his values and policies.

Found pics from Jill Stanek.com from yesterday's protests at Notre Dame

She Writes:

Here are a few more photos of the "Notre Dame 15," as I now jokingly call them, who were arrested for "breaching a secure area," according to news reports. They got up close and personal to the Joyce Center, where the commencement was held. I came along to document.

Protesters chose a good spot, by which many grad families had to pass...

Then they decided to move closer to the families waiting in line to enter the Joyce Center...

And almost accomplished their goal before being arrested...

Here is a good shot by Center for Bio-Ethical Reform's Paul Troiani that encapsulates the activity at ND's entrance. You see the Truth Truck, the protesters and signs at 3 of the 4 corners, and Alan Keyes at the center of media attention in the middle of the photo. All that is missing is the "abortion plane" flying in the distance...

I agree with fielding candidates that are more youthful. With regards to race, the GOP could easily fall into the trap of feeling compelled to nominate candidates who aren’t white instead of going on the merit system.

I also agree with more environmentally friendly policies and messages from Republican contenders.

As for lower taxes, that mantra is too relative to be relevant: like “smaller government”, it is too general for most to get a lock on. So, the Republican Party needs to get way more specific: exactly which taxes does it seek to reduce, by how much, to benefit whom directly, and to have what specific and trackable effect on the economy.

No cult overcomes Christianity like the Islamists.

Only where they have the force of the state behind them.

The best revenge would be a version of Ann Coulter's strategy: convert them and/or their children.

They are here in this nation founded by Christians.

What an opportunity!

The thing is we are loosing our freedoms as Christians and they(Muslims) are gaining. Europe has become less Christian and I’m wondering if pushing Christ out of school and wondering if they are allowing Muslim teachings in the schools is de- Christianizing Europe. That is what I worry about. I’ve heard of some schools in the U.S. allowing Muslim teachings. The kids barely learn about American history anymore. I’d have to do research on the subject but I do wonder..though I do hear bits and pieces of that happening.
