That’s kind of you Par — and that’s a very safe and Calvinist answer.
I did not intend to “make it personal,’ and I was not baiting you to break the RM’s rule. You gave me the general answer I was looking for.
So, “poorly developed theology” and “errant soteriology” aside — and EVEN if you don’t “know” who is elect — do you “fellowship” with those whom you identify in these terms?
Just curious...
Silence speaks volumes....
And a double-bump to this fine post, Ray. I learn from every one of your comments.
Where would that be? Or is defensiveness your only rebuttal?
bump for later read
I’ll reply, not for PAR, but for me:
I have no problem fellowshipping with Arminians (but I usually reject book suggestions). I can’t see into man’s heart so I can’t tell whether or not he is regenerate. Generally, though, the claim of “I’m a Christian,” is good enough for me until/unless his fruits prove otherwise.
Online, I discuss theology with all who claim to be Christian and assume I’m talking with a Christian until they either go crazy or go heretical.
Arguments between different understandings of God’s will and purpose have been a “family tradition” since the beginning of the church (see: Peter v. Paul, Augustine v. Jerome, and Whitefield (Reformed) v. Wesley (Arminian)). Though in one breath Jerome may call Augustine something equal to a buffoon in the next he would call him his beloved and dearest friend. Whitefield never questioned Wesley’s faith, though attacked his doctrines, and consistently referred to him as brother.
Vehement arguments over points of doctrine are good... as iron sharpens iron and all.
So, to my Arminian brethren I say, a well developed soteriology is good but not necessary for salvation... so you’re still OK with me - but you really should read the Bible without all that eisegesis.
Glad I can appear intelligent. Thanks.
