Year of the Priest

Pope Benedict XVI has designated June 19, 2009 through June 19, 2010 as the Year for Priests. This year-long celebration begins on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a day on which we pray for the sanctification of all priests. The Holy Father has likewise declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of All Priests on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the saint’s death.

The USCCB recently developed a website to commemorate this special year.

http://www.usccb.org/yearforpriests/index.shtml

On this website you will find Pope Benedict’s message and the announcement of the plenary indulgence in both English and Spanish. In addition, prayers have been commissioned for both priests and laity respectfully. PDF documents of these prayers (English/Spanish) can be downloaded and printed for diocesan and parochial use. During the course of the year, monthly articles by prominent Catholic women will be available; they will write about their faith and trust in the priesthood. There will be a gathering of priests in Rome for the culmination of the Year for Priests, as well as a gathering/retreat on the national level (information to follow on this site).

Praying is essential...

The USA Council of Serra International Board would like to encourage Serrans throughout the United States to pray for ALL Serrans throughout the world who need healing.

“All USA Council of Serra International members are urged to take part in the effort to canonize Blessed Junipero Serra.

We are aware that one more miracle is needed to submit to the Church body examining Father Serra’s cause for canonization.

Perhaps someone you may remember to pray for will be that miracle cure. One way to do so is to pray the Father Serra Novena (online or in PDF) for the healing of ailing Serrans. Pray the novena and any other devotions for sick Serrans as often as possible.”

Lord knows that we NEED good priests.....to guide us to the TRUTH of God.

Sean Hannity, who is supposed to be a Catholic, had psychic medium John Edward on his show just now......and it was not good. Why does Sean not understand the teaching of the Church regarding the occult?????

**Why does Sean not understand the teaching of the Church regarding the occult?????**

Good question. It sounds like he needs Fr. Enterneur on his show again to call him on the dime.

Thankfully, many of the questionable seminaries are being cleaned up, and young men who may not have wanted to go before are taking a second look.

When Archbishop Timothy Dolan was our Abp in Milwaukee he rejuvenated our Seminary which had just about closed under the previous Abp, Rembert Weakland. They just ordained the largest class of Seminarians in years. I hope we get someone who can keep this trend going. Under Weakland we had several years when there were NO ordinations. THe people of NY are so lucky!

Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans has been a problem for years because of extremely liberal faculty and feminist nuns on the board who had been rejecting more orthodox candidates.

Recently, they've gotten a new Rector, and many of the more egregious personnel are no longer there. So young men who weren't comfortable before, or were rejected, are now considering it again.

Yes, while seminaries all over the country are closing for lack of students, Bishop Brusekewitz in Nebraska is adding a wing to his seminary!

BUMP to this. It is about time we see Bl. Junipero Serra canonized.

There is a prayer for just such a purpose on the website. I’ll find it.

One miracle to be pronounced “Blessed”

Two miracle to be canonized. “Saint”

Jesus, High Priest

Jesus. High Priest

The Year of the Priest

We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to your call to priestly ministry.

Accept this prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill your priests with the sure knowledge of your love.

Open their hearts to the power and consolation of the Holy Spirit.

Lead them to new depths of union with your Son.

Increase in them profound faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen and heal us.

Lord Jesus Christ, grant that these, your priests, may inspire us to strive for holiness by the power of their example, as men of prayer who ponder your word and follow your will.

O Mary, Mother of Christ and our mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones, so dear to the Heart of your Son.

Intercede for our priests, that offering the Sacrifice of your Son, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Saint John Vianney, universal patron of priests, pray for us and our priests
