Paleontologists brought to tears, laughter by Creation Museum

PETERSBURG, Kentucky (AFP) – For a group of paleontologists, a tour of the Creation Museum seemed like a great tongue-in-cheek way to cap off a serious conference.

But while there were a few laughs and some clowning for the camera, most left more offended than amused by the frightening way in which evolution -- and their life's work -- was attacked.

"It's sort of a monument to scientific illiteracy, isn't it?" said Jerry Lipps, professor of geology, paleontology and evolution at University of California, Berkeley.

It is entirely possible to believe in Evolution, to a point, as the method that God used in His Creation plan.

The Author is a bit confused.

Mainstream Christianity does not “reject” Creationism. We simply think that it would have been difficult, 4,000 or more years ago, to explain DNA, cell structure, biology and the like, in written form -— especially in writings that were intended to TEACH US HOW TO LIVE our lives, not to TEACH US HOW LIFE BEGAN!

“Creationism is a theory not supported by most mainstream Christian churches.”

Really?

Learning about the earth’s history at the Creation Museum would be like learning about Russian history from the Great Soviet Encyclopedia.

Mainstream Christianity doesn’t believe the Bible as anything more than a guidebook either. Inerrant? Hah. Man knows better. The article lacks any sort of objectivity or balance, but of course that is typical of the press. I’ve been to the museum several times. It is more philosophical in many respects than science; however, science is not neglected by any stretch. Where it speaks to science it is consistent with Scripture - unlike Evolution.

Maybe it is today. I’m comfortable with either prospect, are you?

The article was too vague. I would have liked to hear the pagan scientist’s disagreements in particular and how the museum is a “distortion and misrepresentation of Christianity as it is of science,” as a Christian scientist said. Even movie reviews are better than this article.

You know....I agree with you...but for crud sake, at a time when Obama is ready to take away all our freedoms and turn us into to serfs, you have to agitate the FR creationists.

You are being counter productive....and when the ‘luddite’ contingent here starts their threads I will hit them as well for being counter productive.....

We need all type of conservatives here.....we need to join together or die.....we need the voting block.

There is a simple explanation. God designed it. As far as cellular biology goes, it is just too complex to have happened by accident. Why do some main-stream non-creationist scientists believe evolution? Because the fool says in his heart there is no God.

And I am not saying you are not Christian or anything. Just FYI

“most left more offended than amused by the frightening way in which evolution — and their life’s work — was attacked.”

When you invalidate someone’s life work, they tend to
react... even more so, when you interrupt them as they
kneel at Darwin’s alter to worship themselves.

Disclaimer: I don’t believe the world is just 6k years old.
Nor do I believe in the current theory of evolution.

Evolving from an ape is just as laughable.

“Really?”

Yes, really. Catholics and Episcopals are free to believe in evolutionary theory, and most do. So are other mainstream denominations. However, there are posters on this site who deny the Christianity of Catholics and Episcopalians with a straight face, so I guess it comes down to your definition of “Christian”.

Mainstream Christian Churches...

You mean the old mainline denominations which have gone theologically and politically liberal, reject Israel, reject the core teachings of the Bible, ordain women, gays, lesbians, heretics and even witches into their leadership, and have lost millions of members in the last 40 years?

You go heaven if you trust in Christ as your savior and pray for the intervention of the holy spirit.

If Genesis were to be a complete description of life and the universe, it would have needed to be a billion pages long.

>>I guess it comes down to your definition of “Christian”<<

Most of the people who don’t understand science on this board (several who have already rung in) have taken it upon themselves to define who is or isn’t “Christian.”

Their definition of “Christian” is “anyone who agrees with me” and “atheist” is “anyone who does not agree with me.”

It is hubris (the greatest sin) at the highest possible level.
