I've heard Downs children are very loving and sensitive. I got the impression that if they lack anything, perhaps it's a gene for 'hate'.

Would, that we'd have to have this demonstrated to us from time to time. Maybe nature throws us this curve every so often as a reminder.(And why would she? hmmm[for the advanced student])

The challenge to the parent will be to love this baby as much as it loves them back (unequivocally).

She drove a car? I did not think that was possible for a Downs to get a license. Please inform me more.

My grandson is Downs, he is 11 yrs, very very smart. He thinks he can do anything. Recently I let him drive the golf cart, with me sitting alongside to help if needed. He did very well. Then he told me "Now I can get my license". lol. I told my daughter, she said they did not know what they will do when he turned 16 as he would know he was old enough.

When he was about 5 yrs old, he was sitting with his father and brother at the table as they were cleaning their guns after a hunt. He had his play gun, cleaning it. Then he told his dad he wanted to go hunting too, dad said "When you get to be a big boy", he said "I am a big boy now", lol. They do have special hunts for these children in our state, he will participate

I can tell you and everyone that God truly blessed our lives with this Downs child, he is a delight and teachers say he is above the norm. We never treated him "Special", he is treated normally as any other child, expected to learn, behave, etc.

I have a Masters degree in Biology so I know that Down Syndrome is Trisomy 21 and is due to the presence of an extra chromosome # 21, but I am also saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and believe every Word of the beautiful, comforting scriptures you quoted. Who are we to say what miracles God may choose to perform in Trig’s or anyone eise’s life? I am sure that our Sarah would welcome prayers from us for any member of her family!

We are here to prove that we are worthy of the gift of eternal life by our faith and our actions.

No one is worthy, no not one! So we CAN'T 'prove' that we are because God's Word says we aren't worthy. Salvation is a GIFT! We either accept it knowing we need a Savior or we don't accept it thinking by our 'good works' we can get into heaven. Only those that acknowledge they need a Savior and believe what Jesus did at the cross can one be made right w/God and have an eternal home in heaven.

That's why they call the Gospel the Good News. Salvation is a gift to receive - and no greater love is there! By saying that one needs to do 'good works' to get into heaven is basically saying Jesus' blood wasn't enough for our salvation. That's totally unscriptural and prideful. We are NOTHING w/o Him.

My post #63 should have been written agreeing with azishot, but crediting Tennessee Nana with quoting the beautiful scriptures. It is 12:30 am and my brain is tired!

Great story! He sounds like a go-getter and will be voting conservative!

I wish I could quote as well a TN Nana!

It’s only 9:30 here and my brain is tired, too!

God bless.

if we have anything to say about it he will. God was good to us by giving him to this family. I would not change a thing if I could.

“It is always right to pray for healing.

However, please be aware that God may have a different purpose....”

Gosh Jemian - I was going to reply but I don’t see how I could possibly come up with a better response than you gave. God Bless You - JM

It is a genetic disorder there is no cure. It is OK to pray that the disorder has little to no effect on Trig.

Down syndrome, like all genetic disorders, has symptoms that vary from person to person. Some Down syndrome people have severe problems and some have much milder symptoms of the disorder. It is always right to pray for someone to have less problems in life.

Why not? People can pray anyway they want too. I think it is wise to keep who you pray for to yourself though unless solicited.

“I don’t agree with your assessment of his facing horrific discrimination. In most DS kids, I find that people are drawn to them because of their love and their innocence. They’re great kids and adults.”

90% of all Down Syndrome children are murdered in utero, If that is not discrimination, than I don't know what is.

Some people with Down’s have higher function than others. It’s my assumption that the higher function you have, the better off you are. Would you rather have high function, low function, or no Down’s at all? Pray for others as you would have them pray for you.

No one is worthy, no not one! Salvation is a GIFT!

Yelling at people about the glory of God is always a good way to start a conversation.

We either accept it knowing we need a Savior or we don't accept it thinking by our 'good works' we can get into heaven... By saying that one needs to do 'good works' to get into heaven is basically saying Jesus' blood wasn't enough for our salvation. That's totally unscriptural and prideful.

Obviously you missed the word faith that was planted right in the middle of the sentence you quoted. And also don't assume the word actions equals works. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you are in the faith alone camp. Fine, that's what you believe. Me, I think maybe you actually need to get off your backside and do something that helps your fellow man, not just yourself, and not as some guarantee to enter the kingdom, but just because it's the right thing to do.

But as I stated, you missed the word faith, and without it, you have nothing. Being unscriptual, (is that even a word?) I think you will find both sides to this argument in the same book. And as far as pride goes, maybe you should reflect on that subject just a little yourself. Or are you really the final word when it comes to just who does and does not get into heaven?

Kush, I know some adult Down’s syndrome folks, and while they are a lot nicer than a lot of people I have known, they still do sin. You might make a case that they sin less often or less dramatically. But name a commandment, I can pretty much think of a time when they broke it.

I don’t consider this observation to be insulting, because I believe we all sin, myself included.

We can always pray for anyone. We are all God’s children.

Where did I say I was? I didn't but you just felt the NEED to throw in some sarcasm. The Word tells us about entry into heaven - it's not a guessing game.

Yelling at people about the glory of God is always a good way to start a conversation.

Yelling? Another assumption. You said we have to prove ourselves worthy - when The Word tells us NO ONE is worthy but you feel otherwise.

I'm in no camp but The Word! Another assumption on your part. I did hit the pride thing right - your post proves it. My life is on a good path - straight and narrow - doing what the Word says. So get off your backside and stop acting so proudly and dictating what 'you think' I should be doing. That log in your eye is blinding you.

Is it right to pray that Trig Palin be healed of his Down Syndrome? Many parents of children with Down Syndrome think it's a horrible thing to do.

I don't mean to appear rude, but I am curious - why would you ask this on an Internet forum? Wouldn't it be better to ask a priest, rabbi, or minister?

Aside: I pray for liberals and birthers, as both are in dire need of intervention. :^)

Ephesians 2:8,9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.

I didn't say that we are not to ask for things. The Scripture tells us specifically, in the parable about the widow who nagged and nagged a judge for justice, that it's not only okay to ask, but to be persistent in prayer for what we want.

The point is not to insist that we know better than the Lord about what we should have, to demand, to try to bend God to our will rather than conforming ourselves to His will. We are to pray as Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane: He prayed "Let this cup be taken from Me," but also, "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou Wilt."
