Yes, I think there’s a place for the scientific method and for our senses.
I do think that a LOT more weight is ignorantly given to both than is warranted, however.

Which tends to seem to be the cardinal doctrine and habit of most naysayers who plague these threads.

I agree with your first part and have posted a great deal opposing scientism on FR.
We should be open minded - while trying to exercise epistemology in a correct fashion.
There are things transcending material and transcending reason (there’s a difference between transcending and contradicting). These involve different methods of proof, in the way I look at it.
There is another set of knowledge that does include matter and reason whose truth is subject to science and logic.
The first step in seeking truth about reality is knowing which tools to apply.
