It would sink. The hull appears to be basic lap siding, and not tightly grained at that. No evidence from interior photos of being made watertight by sealing it with pitch or any other means.

No one really seems to know what “gopher wood” might be in this day and time, so an accurate reconstruction is going to be problematic.

This is not to diminish the man's inspired effort, to make real a Biblical occurrence that is dismissed as myth all too often, especially in that part of the world.

“gopher” is simply a transliteration of the Hebrew and refers to a resinous tree, possibly cypress. It may be related to the word “kopher” or tar.
