The Archdiocese of New Orleans and its charitable arm, Catholic Charities, said Tuesday they will pay $5.182 million to an undisclosed number of adults who claimed that years ago as children they were beaten, berated and sexually molested at two Catholic orphanages that were supposed to shelter them because their families were in disarray.
The archdiocese announced a package settlement of 20 lawsuits, most of them filed by adults alleging that in the 1950s and 1960s they were abused at Madonna Manor and nearby Hope Haven on the West Bank.
"I hope these mediations and negotiations will bring some peace and reconciliation to those victims and all those involved," Archbishop Gregory Aymond said in announcing the settlements.
Aymond said a few lawsuits remain outstanding.
Because settlement talks are not complete, the announcement caught plaintiffs' attorneys by surprise.

I don’t know, but it’s not with any help from me. I never give to the first collection or any other collection that goes to the Archdiocese. I will give to any collection that benefits the Parish Church directly, or to a mission collection, but not to the Archdiocese, or the Assoc. Catholic Charities.
Is ANYONE stupid enough to think that the problem ends with a few priests? These settlements are for things that happened in the 50’s! Where did those priests go? Did they continue their evil elsewhere? And where were the bishops then? How many of them are bishops now?
The problem of sexual abuse in the Church goes WAY up.- IMO- to the Vatican itself. The upper echelon can’t very well punish parish level priests when they themselves might get caught up in the purge that is necessary. So they covered for them- and STILL cover. This is not a problem of the past- and it is not just pedophilia but homosexuality.
Almost ALL of the victims are male.
I don’t want priests who are not legitimate according to church law. I don’t want priests who have sex with little boys OR adult men. They joined and took a vow of celibacy- if they can’t live by it they can’t be priests. It’s that simple.
And I want to know where these pervert priests are now- we all deserve to know. Why are they above the law of the land?
We get told when a sexual predator moves into our neighborhoods but not when a gay/pedophiliac priest comes to our parish?

Definitely up to the Vatican. Before he was named pope, Ratzinger was the papacy's "Chief Inquisitor" for 20 years in the vatican who was charged with investigating the thousands of priest sex abuse charges.
Instead, Ratzinger stalled the investigation, reminding priests that anyone who publicly accused priests of molestation were to be excommunicated, and continued to hide the crimes of these pederast priests by blaming the victim.

Male and young. Don't buy the hype that this is just a few errant gays who've infiltrated the priestcraft. Most victims were children. This is homosexual pedophilia and it is rampant among these "monastic" men who dare to call themselves "another Christ."
The priest are just the tip of the iceburg and are nothing more than scapegoats. I believe within the last couple of days there was an article about one of the Catholic bishops getting caught selling child porn. He was one who negotiated one of the settlement. It isn’t surprising.
This news is always under the fold or relegated to page 10. It needs to be blasted across the country's consciousness. How fathers and mothers can send their children to parochial schools is beyond understanding. They're brain-washed to believe their priests are "another Christ" and so they willingly offer up their children to destruction.
