Is the 2012 Trailer Anti Catholic?
cmr ^ | November 12, 2009 | Matthew Archbold

Posted on 11/13/2009 10:27:18 AM PST by NYer

I'm a movie guy. I love going to the movies. Don't get there often but I still check out all the trailers online and plot strategy to get out of the house for those movies I really want to see.

So I just saw the trailer to the new movie 2012. When I first clicked on it my first thought was aren't we all getting tired of big budget disaster porn but then I paid attention to what I was seeing in the preview and something seemed a little...well you decide:

At the 20 second mark we've got the arms of the Jesus the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janiero falling off and then the whole thing falling over completely.

34 seconds in you see like fifty thousand people with candles standing in St. Peter's Square looking up at the Pope who's looking down at them.

36 seconds in you've got a crowd of people all making the sign of the cross.

Then you get about 12 or so seconds of regular old fireballs from the sky type mayhem.

50 seconds there's an image of St. Peter's Basilica toppling.

52 seconds cut to Cardinals inside praying only to look up at the art on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to see it breaking apart and presumably crushing them.

54 seconds Those people who were praying with candles outside are now screaming and running. Why? Because the dome of St. Peter's is crashing down on top of them and then rolling over them crushing a few thousand people as it rolls essentially on top of the camera blacking everything out.

(Holy metaphor alert Batman!)

The rest of the trailer is just regular old mayhem and the White House getting destroyed. And at the end it says, "Find out the Truth."

And I'm just sitting there thinking "I think somebody's got a problem with Catholicism." I mean, that makes Ron Howard looks pretty nice by comparison. But then I thought maybe it's just because Catholics have the big iconic architecture and imagery. I mean what would Protestant mayhem look like anyway? Rick Warren falling over on top of someone.

I don't like to jump to conclusions so I Googled Roland Emmerich, the director, who, according to numerous sources is openly gay and an activist liberal. But hey, it's Hollywood, who isn't?

I wondered if this guy has some sort of distaste for things Catholic. And darn it but what do I find? I warn you this is kinda weird.

In a closet in his house, Mr. Emmerich has a statue of Pope John Paul II laughing while reading his own obituary. That's right. Pope John Paul II. In a closet. Laughing while reading his own obituary. You don't believe me, right? Well, look below.

And then it gets a little weirder. I'm not kidding.
According to the Guardian:
Mao and Lenin fill the length of the 25ft living room wall; an old master-style painting of the Crucifixion shows Jesus sporting a Wham T-shirt; in the guest bathroom is a portrait of Saddam Hussein
I always just thought Roland Emmerich was a mediocre director of bad movies with a ginormous budget. That's still true. But now he's a mediocre director of bad movies that I'm not going to see.

Watch the movie trailer .... here .

Several trailers also have wanton destruction of Buddhist temples and Tibet being engulfed by tidal waves and this is a major location area and thematic centered item in the movie. (the first trailer centered on nothing but this) so one could just as well ask it if it is anti-Buddhist.

::spoiler alert::
While there may be an intention meant, I believe they go for what they consider familiar images and include religious imagery to both bring it back to the Noah’s ark theme (you’ll understand when you see the movie) and the concept of shaking humanity down to their very core, the most fundamental aspects are threatened, not just life but faith. However, there is a twist outside the Mayan aspect that “this has happened before, it will happen again” that some will find interesting.

I could not sit through the entire trailer. It is, in Polite Bronxese, $HIT.

Also saw John Cusack as well as Danny Glover. The usual cast of Hollywood idiots.

If Obama causes WE THE PEOPLE to revolt by doing something which really threatens out Republic(like canceling the 2010 elections because of terror attaches or some such pretext), I have a list of scumbags whose carcass I would personally like to run electricity through and those two are at the top of my list. Ammunition is too good for them.

Is this supposed to be a Christmas movie release? Typical!!!

I will save money by staying home and watching FOX News, TCM, etc. Life is good after all!

Because Catholics have bigger statues and cooler buildings. Who’s going to watch a movie about dinky Protestant statues and storefront churches collapsing? Boooorrrinnggggg....

Easily recognizable land marks.

Of course the film omits any "easily recognizable Muslim land marks" because of the filmmakers's abject cowardice. That makes it a fundamentally dishonest document. An eight-figure advertising budget that brings the trailer into television sets all over the world makes it an overt political statement, far more than "just a movie."

Anyone who purchases a ticket to a Hollywood movie or watches TV in a way that can be measured for revenue purposes is directly helping the anti-Christian propaganda of the Enemy.

If you can’t see a movie for free or steal a TV show by downloading it, don’t watch it.

The Catholic Church is the only force over the past 1400 + years that has stopped and beaten Islam. I have issues with church especially the libs and scum at Notre dame and other “catholic” schools.

The reason why the church is attacked by the left is Islam knows it may be the only thing stopping them from total domination with the exception of china.

Well, I wouldn’t know an easily recognizable islamic fascist land mark if it bit me.
This movie is from Hollywood.......I take it for what its worth, which isn’t much.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. The reviews I have read say it is quite possibly the worst film of the year. The critics I read hated it with a passion and they are not Conservative leaning critics by any stretch of the imagination. Here's the first sentence of one of those reviews:

"2012 is a movie so bad that the Vatican is in talks with God to cancel the actual Armageddon altogether." (Massawyrm, AintItCoolNews.com)

Ouch! And it goes downhill from there. Let it die of its own awfulness. It won't last long.

Just typical Hollyweird if you ask me.

BTW, he excluded Mecca from his destruction film because he feared the Islamic backlash.

Look at the bright side. It shows that Christendom has produced great structures worth destroying in a movie. Except for the Kaaba nothing notable worth destroying in the Islamic world.

Hey, the Crystal Cathedral looks pretty big! In Hollywood lots of glass can rain down like a gazillion shards of evil....or whatever.

The point of the Catholic references is to portray the Church as an impotent fraud, and the faith of its members as insupportable superstition which is incapable of saving even the most faithful adherents at a time of true crisis. The Church will survive the mocking slurs of this hollywood lowlife, just as it has time and time before.

The Passion of the Christ was released in 2004. Entertainment Weekly described it as “the most controversial film of all times”. There were many attempts by the Hollywood establishment to prevent it from being released. Mel Gibson received death threats as a result of releasing this film.
This was the only film I can think of that fits this criteria and though it was very successful at the box office it was attacked repeatedly and no other films of this type have been made since.
