The Bearing Witness series of seminars created by the Anti-Defamation League is designed to teach educators about anti-Semitism and the history of the relationship between Jews and the church.
"The very first time I attended, I'll be brutally honest, it was difficult for me to hear some of the things that were said, like how the Fourth Lateran Council demanded Jews wear identifying hats," said Father Alexei Smith of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which helps develop and promote the conference. "That's horrendous and a precursor to the Nazis' demanded armbands."

Oy vey!
“Madsen attributed her emotional reaction to the program’s requirement of total immersion. “It’s intense,” she said. “There are no distractions from the outside world. You’re in total concentration on one thing — the good and the bad.””
Sounds like brainwashing.
Gee, when will Jews in modern America be told their view of the Messiah is wrong as these Christians were told?
BS.
From the Fourth Lateran Council:
CANON 68
Summary. Jews and Saracens of both sexes in every Christian province must be distinguished from the Christian by a difference of dress. On Passion Sunday and the last three days of Holy Week they may not appear in public.
Text: In some provinces a difference in dress distinguishes the Jews or Saracens from the Christians, but in certain others such a confusion has grown up that they cannot be distinguished by any difference. Thus it happens at times that through error Christians have relations with the women of Jews or Saracens, and Jews and Saracens with Christian women. Therefore, that they may not, under pretext of error of this sort, excuse themselves in the future for the excesses of such prohibited intercourse, we decree that such Jews and Saracens of both sexes in every Christian province and at all times shall be marked off in the eyes of the public from other peoples through the character of their dress. Particularly, since it may be read in the writings of Moses [Numbers 15:37-41], that this very law has been enjoined upon them.
Moreover, during the last three days before Easter and especially on Good Friday, they shall not go forth in public at all, for the reason that some of them on these very days, as we hear, do not blush to go forth better dressed and are not afraid to mock the Christians who maintain the memory of the most holy Passion by wearing signs of mourning.
This, however, we forbid most severely, that any one should presume at all to break forth in insult to the Redeemer. And since we ought not to ignore any insult to Him who blotted out our disgraceful deeds, we command that such impudent fellows be checked by the secular princes by imposing them proper punishment so that they shall not at all presume to blaspheme Him who was crucified for us.
Note: Saracen = Muslim.
In other words, they wanted all non-Christians to be dressed distinctly.
Oh that's right . . . that's all "mythology" which neither the Catholic Church nor the ADL believe.
And vlad, Jews have been told for almost two thousand years that their view of the messiah is wrong--so often and so loudly that only the chr*stian interpretation of the "messiah" is known to most people (probably including Jews).

I think you’re right in some cases, but I haven’t encountered those Jews. Don’t get me wrong, I have encountered many Jews who knew SOMETHING about Christianity, but often only in caricature. They rarely understood why Christians believed Jesus was the Messiah. I do remember a fellow student in college who had been trained by “anti-missionaries”. He was very interesting to talk to. He had been trained to deal with most Christian arguments and knew them decently well. He is one of the few Jews I have encountered who did.
Dorff's explanation is that Jesus was not believed to be the son of God by Jews because he did not fulfill the "job description" in the Old Testament, which was to bring a world of complete peace and harmony. The teachers' reaction?
"They're surprised," Dorff said. "The way that Jews are portrayed in Christian circles is blind or stubborn or both. My goal is just to show people that what we're talking about is an honest disagreement between friends -- one that's not rooted in fact but in perception."
There was much about Christ which didn't fit into what the Jews were expecting.
The peace and harmony part can be there, just not on mankind's "terms". If the written history of Israel doesn't prove that, then what does? Certainly not modern secular humanism....
I don't think that most Jews understand Christ, much. But then again, they are certainly not alone in that.
If I had a nickel for every lie ever told about God, and two nickels for every lie told about God in the name of God, I could just about solve World hunger from the proceeds, if such funds were to be diligently & wisely applied.
Of course it would only work for a while, if at all. Human corruption would undoubtedly ruin it.
Which leaves us yet again seeing plainly enough (if we can't already!!!), that the world needs a Savior. If we would only recognize Him...
"Oy vey!", is right.
This comment: “You can place the race...”
Should have been “You can play the race card, but it won’t work.” Man I need to go to bed and gest some sleep!
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
A few things come to mind when I read this article. First of all, it states that the seminar was HEAVILY funded. By whom, I wonder? A government grant I expect. But isn’t California nearly bankrupt? Secondly, why would a private, Catholic school want to spend $160.00 per teacher ( remember this is on top of the public funding) to have them listen to the Anti Defamation League insult their faith? This reminds me of a “Diversity Training” seminar I was forced to go to years ago. Two “professional” Black women more or less insulted white people and everyone ( who was White) stood around looking sheepish. Then people started to agree with the women, and apologized to them for the atrocities of mean old Whites. It was horrifying. This thing is exactly the same. It is shameful, and the diocese of this school ought to chastise the principal for allowing it to happen.
Victimization has reched a new level — and who$e benefitting from thi$ prolonged “poor me” $yndrome? Why should Catholics be forced to feel shame for something that as individuals they had noting to do with? I’m sure Catholics can find many situations throughout their history where they’ve been victimized as well ... but to what end? Life isn’t fair. Get over it.
“... they had noting [should be NOTHING] to do with?
Beat's the heck out of me...
Is that what is going on here? I was of the impression that it looks to be a bit more balanced than that, judging solely from the news article.
Then again, I don't completely trust newspapers.
Regarding things which I myself have had direct knowledge of, I've rarely seen 100% accuracy, though one time perhaps, an error was simply a wrong name, rather than lack of or error in other factual detail.
Maybe these teachers should have inquired about current Jewish treatment of the Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories. Jewish rule over these groups is a consignment to an existence of slavery. Such present Jewish treatment of the Palestinians forfeits the right of the Jew to be critical of treatment received by their ancestors in the past.
LOL. So far from truth, it’s not clear where to begin.
