Christian Apologists: Be Careful of Oprah's Spiritual Teachings

She is persuasive, influential and does a lot of good, but Christians should be careful when Oprah speaks about spirituality, warned two apologists who recently co-authored a book on the subject.

To a crowd of more than 1,500 people at McLean Bible Church outside of Washington, D.C,. on Friday evening, renowned apologist Josh McDowell and up-and-coming apologist Dave Sterrett explained the danger of adopting Oprah’s spiritual teachings from a Christian perspective.

They pointed out that the talk show queen and the spiritual teachers she promotes teach pantheism – God is all and all is God – and that there are multiple paths to reach God. She also emphasizes that people should carry out their inner longings instead of restraining themselves if the act is said to be a sin by the Bible.

I have never consciously watched Oprah but she is on so much that one cannot avoid occasionally coming across her show.

In just that short amount of viewing it was clear she was not an orthodox Christian.

No, it sure doesn't take long to see that!

She seems willing to believe anything but what God told us is truth.

Opray has been doing this for years. I forget the name of the woman she was pushing years ago. They’ve all been mixed up and push a religion that is not Christian although they claim to teach about Jesus. It is not the Jesus of the Bible, it’s a different Jesus.

I see Oprah Winfrey as an empty vessel who lurches from one flavor of the month to the next and then broadcasts her latest fad infatuation on her show.

Yesterday she was touting this documentary "Food Inc." which, as far as I could tell, slams the way food is produced in this country, including the way livestock such as chicken is raised and brought to market. She fell in love with this show, and felt it was her duty as a human being to make everyone aware of it.

Anyway, she should stick to book clubs and Dr. Oz. When she starts with a different religious fad every month, that's some serious tampering with the spiritual well being of other human beings. She is extremely gullible, and will buy into any kind of looney cultish garbage, and she really should leave it alone.

>> Christians should be careful when Oprah speaks about spirituality

They’re right, of course, but my Bible tells me so. Anyone well-grounded in the Scriptures need not worry about falling for Oprah’s nonsense.

I have always equated Oprah with New Age. Avoid her!

I know, but most people who watch Oprah and sit in the audience aren't well grounded in Biblical truth and are susceptible to any godless, weird nonsense that someone dreams up and writes a book about.

Oprah is playing a dangerous game.

I was there. It's an important book by a well-respected author, Josh McDowell (More Than a Carpenter; Evidence That Demands a Verdict). As we know, there is all kinds of new age spiritism infecting the church and this book points Christians and skeptics back to scripture.

You are absolutely correct about that.

Instead of embracing the life-giving truth of God's word, she laps up any kind of teaching which is in direct opposition to everything God has said and then introduces it to others who then are themselves deceived and are in a place of believing that the lies they've heard on her show are the answer. They then live their lives thinking that they're okay spiritually when nothing could be further from the truth.

” 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. “ — 2 Tim. 4

Those times are upon us.

May God bless those who are calling the truth to mind.

FRegards

Moira Noonan wrote a great book - “Ransomed from Darkness” about her escape from her deep involvement with New Age practices. She particularly mentioned the “Course in Miracles” that Oprah endorses. It is a heresy of the type that man is all good, there is no sinful fallen nature, and we can “discover” our own inner g_d. Noonan knows of what she writes. It is a fascinating read.

I totally agree with you. I feel sorry for her and also pray for her, she is influential and that makes her dangerous to other people souls. Which in itself is very disturbing. She’s goes anyway the wind blows. One day it’s this way and the next it’s that way. Spiritually unstable.

Some people describe themselves as Christian becasue they are not Muslim or Jewish, believe vaguely in a nice God, and have been to church an Easter Sunday or two. Those are the ones in danger.

A real Christian would only have to listen to her for three minutes to be know she is as far from the truth as she could be. She blows like the wind, grasping for something to hang onto.

I think all Christians should pray for her HARD every day. Can you imagine the influence she would have as a bible-believing Christian? She could really rock the world.
