Any such list that has Hal Lindsey as a “good apple” deserves to be laughed out of the room. Hal Lindsey is a fool and a charlatan.

Is this a list of modern day prophets or just people you agree with?

I mostly agree with your ratings from a quick scan.

I’d rate Dave Hunt lower and Pat Robertson and David Wilkerson higher.

Good job.

Thx.

This list is primarily a crock - loaded with partially baseless favoritism...

Far too many of the subject comparitives are among mainstream or slightly off-mainstream dispensationalists and folk of other prophetic interpretretive stripes who are near - nutcases.

Not reasonable by objective standards.

This list deserves to be largely ignored especially for its red-apple ‘dissing’ giant Bible scholars like Hank Hanegraaf and Dr. Walter Martin, whose reference books the list maker(s) is/are unworthy to carry.

Probably almost half the familiar names among the “green apples” are hermeneutically sketchy on their better days.

I will exclude certain notables such as John Ankerberg, J. Dwight Pentecost, Randy Alcorn (whom I knew personally), Dr Charles Stanley, Jerry Falwell, Josh McDowell and Charles Swindoll - who I find more sound and measured in their approach and reserved in arriving at conclusions in most situations...

Otherwise, George MacDonald, J.B. Lightfoot (an English relation of mine), Francis Schaeffer and C.S Lewis are quietly weeping over tea in a corner in heaven (or maybe they’re chortling in politely dignified disdain).

Great list.

Accurate from my perspective, although I haven’t closely looked at Walter Martin, I did have a more favorable impression of his theology, although not based upon his eschatology. I’m also a little more positive on Jack Van Impe, although the criticism levied might be valid.

Many, many years ago I called into Hal Linsdey’s radio show. I asked him why Christians ignored that the only place the busy little fingers put Easter in the Bible instead of the word actually used Passover. He told me if was for the children, so as to not be left out of all the hunting eggs, and dressing up that Easter has come to be.

Even Paul, which some have unsoundly used to dream up a rapture theory says we are to ICorinthians 5:7-8 keep the passover, and Paul never ever kept the holiday of Easter.

Christ Himself quotes Daniel in Matthew 24:21 and the very next utterance penned is Matthew 24:22 And except those *days* be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: *but* for the elect’s sake those *days* shall be shortened....

But all I keep hearing/reading is 7 years, 7 years,.......

I could go on and on and on and on wherein unsound doctrine has been produced that ignores the instruction Scripture gives from the ‘beginning’... Genesis 1:1 all the way through Revelation 22:21.

Christ did say these things need be.

Some helpful material there, thanks.

Nothing drives some of my fellow-Reformeds crazy as quickly is the convicting sight of someone who, unlike them, applies Reformation principles to Biblical prophecy as well — rather than simply re-working and defending Rome’s gutting of it.

This depends on your eschatological position

Your position on the end times is not a test of orthodoxy or a statement on your salvation

If Wikipedia is accurate, if you're going to be evaluating Herbert W. Armstrong and William Branham, you may as well be evaluating Sun Myung Moon and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.

(1) David Reagan believes that hell is NOT eternal.
He also wrote an article savagely attacking Jody Dillow’s book “Reign of the Servant Kings” - an excellent book on God’s grace and eternal security .

(2) the list editor seems to have little space or sympathy for a pre-wrath rapture or a mid or post-trib rapture. That’s about my only beef with the list, since I think the pretrib rapture position is mostly founded on a literalist premillennial view, whereas preterism is based on an allegorical prejudice which is often applied by an attitude of anti-Judaism .

I also don’t understand the preterist/reformed attitude of trying to prove a prophecy view based on it’s supposed lineage. It’s as bad as the Cathloics proving papal infallibility by an ancestral chart....

Premillennial dispensationalism is true not because it’s old, but because it’s true to the Word.

Most of these guys are pop parade theologians. Walvoord, Ryrie, Fruchtenbaum, Scofield, Pentecost, McGee were the ones I grew up reading. Most of the better ones are on the honorable mention list.
