My brother wears shorts and Hawaiian shirts when he preaches.
My son in law takes off his shoes.
Nope I don't know why either one does that but they do and it has nothing to do with preaching the Word of God.
I was in a service with a South African preacher and some oldsters complain to him that he didn't wear a shirt and tie. The next week he came dressed in his native garb which basically was a piece of material tied around his waist. No one ever complained again.

White shirt and tie, really what did he expect. It just looks silly unless you are part of the Geek Squad.

The unfriendly congregation occurred here in Florida.

The preacher asking me if I was Mormon occurred in the outskirt of Provo, Utah about five years ago. If anybody showed up to his church on Sunday with a white shirt and tie, he knew that person would probably be a visiting Mormon.

In post 885, I thought I had made it clear that I have attended several different Evangelical churches and I also thought that I had made it clear that this was a different congregation. A preacher asking me jovially before a meeting if I was Mormon is not confronting me.

I have talked about visits to two distinct and separate Evangelical congregations and I believe you have conflated them into a single congregation.

If you don't believe me, it's because you are wanting to sin; BIG time!

Just a curiosity about this statement The preacher asking me if I was Mormon occurred in the outskirt of Provo, Utah about five years ago. If anybody showed up to his church on Sunday with a white shirt and tie, he knew that person would probably be a visiting Mormon.

Why did you visit this church? And why did you wear something that would so easily identify you as lds? Especially, when you apparently knew it might cause the visiting church to be uncomfortable, as well as yourself.

There were like 60 there that night. when most of the congregation found out that I was Mormon, they glared at me.

Why would that surprise you?

While we are discussing beliefs, let me state that mormonism does NOT have a single solitary thing to do with "having the heavens opened unto anyone."

I also, do firmly NOT believe that "fighting against the (mormon) church is "fighting against God".

I also state that in the years that I was involved with mormonism, there was, in fact, a belief among the members that I knew that leaving the mormon church would make one a son of perdition.

Your mileage obviously varies.

I was taught that too, when I was LDS and several of former friends (LDS) think so as well from what they have told me.

To be fair, sometimes converts just go with what they see and don’t really study the faith. I was told I was an anomaly (by BIC’s) because I studied so much.

I don't believe your posts were clear in describing different congregations. However, wearing a white shirt and tie to a strange Evangelical service may get you as many perusals as would wearing a Hawaiian shirt and shorts to a mormon ward would.

I can almost guarantee that there would indeed be "glares" in the later situation, or an invitation to leave.

As I have said before, I have no ability or right to make a judgment on anyone.

Best to you,

We've had Mormon visitors to our church, and, sure enough, some in the congregation STARED at them!

(I might add that anyone coming in after the service starts will get STARED at by a few as well.)

After the service; MANY of our folks talked to and shook hands with the Missionary visitors.

(No; we were NOT checking for BONES! ;^)

As I have said before, I have no ability or right to make a judgment on anyone.

Sure you do!

On BOTH counts!

Luke 7:43
Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled."   "You have judged correctly," Jesus said.

Luke 12:57
"Why don't you judge for yourselves what is right?

Acts 4:19
But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God.

1 Corinthians 5:12
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?

 1 Corinthians 6:1-4
 1.  If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints?
 2.  Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
 3.  Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
 4.  Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church!

 1 Corinthians 11:13
Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
