Catholic Nuns Endorse Obamacare?
Creative Minority Report ^ | 3-17-10 | Matt Archbold

Posted on 03/17/2010 11:03:24 AM PDT by marcbold

This is awful. Nuns gone wild. The AP reports:

Catholic nuns are urging Congress to pass President Barack Obama's health care plan, in an unusual public break with bishops who say it would subsidize abortion.

Some 60 leaders of religious orders representing 59,000 Catholic nuns Wednesday sent lawmakers a letter urging them to pass the Senate health care bill. It contains restrictions on abortion funding that the bishops say don't go far enough.

The letter says that "despite false claims to the contrary, the Senate bill will not provide taxpayer funding for elective abortions." The letter says the legislation also will help support pregnant women and "this is the real pro-life stance." More to come. Check back soon.

This kind of thing will almost certainly confuse many Catholics. Methinks the Dems have had this in their pocket for a while and are now attempting to create momentum. This comes on the heels of Catholic congressman Dale Kildee's official endorsement today and the Catholic Health Association endorsing Obamacare.

What really kills me is that the bill clearly funds abortion. Do they really think that if they lie openly enough and loudly enough that everyone will simply accept it.

That’s why Pope Benedict and his teams are not scrutinizing Catholic convents.

I’m not defending the nuns in any way at all. There are many who are liberal and need to be listed as so.

For an inkling of the magnitude of this problem go the Our Lady’s Warriors and check on dissent and then speakers. Lots of nun’s names on there.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

Congressional Dems on Twitter
http://www.arrghpaine.com/congressional-dems-on-twitter

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

"The Catholic Religious have bought into liberal fascim hook, line and sinker save for a few."

No, only a deviant few hold these positions, but unfortunately they are the only ones discussed by the MSM and the only ones cited by the various anti-Catholic groups and individuals who lurk here on FR.

Do we have a list of all diocese we can contact through email or by phone on this?

Bart Stupak said this morning the HC bill allows federal funding on two different pages. Like page 200 something and one other but I was half asleep.

Regardless, there will be funding and we will all pay even if they do the fancy financing trick of separating federal with private premiums.

Comment on page.

I saw this. It is being headed by Sister Carol Keenan, aka “Half my brain is a clinking cash register”.

The so called not for profit catholic healthcare hospital groups are all profit. It is a big scam and they send millions of dollars a year to offshore accounts. Their local hospitals plead poverty, while the systems (Sisters of Charity Leavenworth, Catholic Healthcare West, etc) brag about how much money they make.

Wow, this story is completely bogus then. This group represents no one except a bunch of secular 'nuns' who seem to be socialists first, Catholics twenty-third.

Pathetic.

I posted this to my FaceBook page. People need to know that this story is garbage.

Okay here is why Stupak is against the bill. I think. It is a fancy way of financing abortions. Just don't co mingle funds from feds and private pay. It will be okay to use our money to fund abortions unless each state passes a law against it. Right, that is not going to happen in Ca.

Obama and Reid is mandating insurance companies pay for abortions and use private citizens pay to circumvent the Hyde amendment.

Page 2069 through Page 2078 of the Senate-passed bill. It says, "If a qualified plan provides [abortion] coverage … the issuer of the plan shall not use any amount attributable to [health reform's government-funding mechanisms] for purposes of paying for such services."

(This is on Page 2072.) That seems pretty straightforward. No government funding for abortions. (Except in the case of rape, incest, or a threat to the mother's life—the same exceptions granted under current law.) If a health insurer selling through the exchanges wishes to offer abortion coverage—the federal government may not require it to do so, and the state where the exchange is located may (the bill states) pass a law forbidding it to do so—then the insurer must collect from each enrollee (regardless of sex or age) a separate payment to cover abortion. The insurer must keep this pool of money separate to ensure it won't be commingled with so much as a nickel of government subsidy. (This is on Pages 2072-2074.)

Anyone who enrolls through the exchange in a health plan that covers abortions must pay a nominal sum (defined on Page 125 of the bill as not less than "$1 per enrollee, per month") into the specially segregated abortion fund. (Under the Senate bill, every insurance exchange must offer at least one abortion-free health plan.)

Mother Theresa must be rolling in her grave.

Mother Teresa is very busy, busy, sending prayers that she receives over to Our Lady to send to her Son, to eliminate abortion and all other strife on this earth, and she and Mary want to hear from you too!:):)

Network is a sisters' "Catholic social justice lobby" claiming to represent the views of over 100,000 members. There are less than 60,000 sisters in the USA, and of course not all of them are represented by Network; so Network claims to represent 160% of all American nuns, right?

They have no canonical status (which is to say, they are a private, incorporated, political lobbying group, not a structure of the Catholic Church) and, while they may have a huge mailing list --- who knows? --- that includes me (I have gotten their mailings over the years) and many others who are NOT dues-paying members, not nuns, not even necessarily Catholics, let alone a formal constituency whose opinions they "represent."

There can be no doubt that they reflect the politics many ---- way too many --- dissident convents, e.g. the ones who are coldly and defiantly refusing even to answer simple questionnaires from legitimate Church authorities.

It's going to get worse before it gets better.

I don't know whether to express sorrow, outrage, or pity.

This is from a 2007 contact list of congressional aides. Some might not be there any longer, but worth a try.

Looking at the NETWORK website, they appear to be more TREE HUGGERS, old ANTI-WAR ACTIVISTS in search of something to protest about, and other liberals than Catholics following the teaching of the Catholic Church.

But that is something you probably already new.

I just wanted to spell this out for others to read about this group.

Maybe we should build some TREE HOUSES for them to live in.

It's Saint Patrick's day, and I needed to use the Color Green for something.

I don't think Saint Patrick would think much of these folks (Network).
