Why I left the Catholic Church
NY Post ^ | April 4, 2010 | MICHELE MATTIA

I grew up in the Catholic Church; however, it seemed like I was Catholic by inheritance only, as no one in my family prayed before meals, read from the Bible, or even discussed God.

You went to church because you were supposed to go to church. I attended Catechism classes every Sunday until I turned 13 and received my Confirmation. My teachers were often frustrated with my perpetually raised hand to ask questions like: Why can’t women become priests? Why can’t priests get married? Why do I have to go to confession instead of talking to God directly? And why did it seem like God was always angry?

In my mind, God was a lot like Santa Claus. I envisioned him sitting on a motorized cloud (after all, he had a lot of sky to cover) in order to keep tabs on when I was good or bad. Once I left for college, Catholicism had become more about politics, rules and exclusivity than my connection to God. The hypocrisy I felt every time I stepped into a Catholic Church knowing I didn’t agree with much of their doctrine caused me to walk away. I knew at some point I would find my spiritual home.

—AN ACCURATE HISTORY

"To be deep in history is to cease to be protestant." John Cardinal Newman

—ACCURACY ABOUT MARY’S OTHER BLOOD CHILDREN

Scripture teaches us that the Blessed Virgin Mary gave birth to only one child, Jesus Christ.

WRONG

ON BOTH POINTS.

Scripture teaches that Jesus had blood brothers and sisters.

The actions, practices, or beliefs really have little if anything to do with the doctrinal dogmatic truth of the Catholic Church. Much of what you posted is due to poor cathechisis and not the truth of what is taught.

She hits most of the buzzwords for people who want to belong to a Church but without any of that dogma to get in the way.

Sounds like most of the folks you encounter in suburban NY/NJ/CT, where bourgeois "cafeteria Catholicism" has held sway since at least Vat II. It says alot that some of these people were more militant in protesting against "bussing" then they were against abortion.

When I changed churches, I didn’t feel a need to write a column about it. I just did it.

On the flip side, when someone else changed churches, I didn’t feel a need to say they went to the “dark side.”

By your own confession then,

the vast majority [by that one doc alone—70-90+%] of professing Roman Catholics et al

are farces regarding their pseudo-Christianity.

Thanks for the admission of the facts. I think I’ll save this thread again.

Sounds to me like she left because her emphasis is on her own happines and own self-knowledge. Holiness asks us to go beyond rules and regulations, to pursue the kind of self-knowledge that will transform our existence from merely mundane to the decidedly divine. I hope God will open her heart and bring her back.

"God founded Judaism"
Jesus is God.

Jesus was Jewish until he founded the Catholic Church.

Thereby, God founded Catholicism.

Please read the Bible.
Just sayin'.

NOPE.

A bunch of bureaucratic political power mongers founded the Roman Catholic et al organization several hundred years later.

. . . the authentic, UNrubberized history . . .

Indeed. Jesus, Son of God, founded His Church, whose adherents came to be called Christians. His Church consists of all who accept Him, irrespective of denomination.

So there are at least two things that God founded, and I have faith that He will be true to both.

Or it might be too good of a catechisis.

Deep down she nows something is rotten in Denmark, errr, Rome and will leave to later be drawn by the Holy Spirit to a Bible preaching church.
