You have heard it said that the three most important factors in real estate are: location, location, location. Turns out that location is also important in terms of car insurance. If you want to lower your car insurance, then be sure to live close to a house of worship. That's right, church can be good for your soul as well as your pocketbook.
According to Insure.com, if you happen to live within one (1) mile of a church or other "religious instituiton" you are 10% less likely to have an automobile accident that results in property damage to your vehicle. Therefore, if you are less likely to have a serious auto accident (remember, most accidents happen close to home), then you are more likely to save money on your automobile insurance.
You do not have to attend that local church on a regular basis or ever. You just have to live within one mile. How's that for an extended blessing?
When you think about why there are fewer accidents, it does make sense...

I had to think about it. And yes, I live less than one mile from a Church.
But so what? I routinely drive more than a mile away each day.
I should get all kinds of discounts, then. I think there are 4 or 5 churches within a mile of my house.
Do your rates go up if you’re near a mosque?
I am pretty sure redlining (location-based pricing) is no longer allowed or done in California. I recently was looking at auto quotes and none of the sites (nor representatives) asked my address.
Being less likely to experience a collision is a reward in itself.
Really? Well, in the neighborhood where my parish is (not where I live, but where I worship): the stickers on my license plates have been stolen twice the second time was during the Easter Vigil (I now have plastic guards over them), my car broken into once along with countless others (the bulletin actually has warnings for people not to leave ANYTHING in their cars) and choir rehearsal has been disrupted from time to time by police looking for the owners of various cars in the process of being stolen.
