Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem ~ Origins

A Woman Prays in the "Jewish Side" of the Cave of Machpelah

Genesis Chapter 23

1. And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.

2. And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

3. And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,

4. I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

5. And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,

6. Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

7. And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

8. And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

9. That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a burying place amongst you.

10. And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

11. Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.

12. And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13. And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.

14. And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,

15. My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

16. And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

17. And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure

18. Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

19. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

20. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the sons of Heth.

The "Jewish Side" of the Cave of Machpelah

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified if Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!
You Are The Beginning and the End,
The Alpha And The Omega,
The GREAT I AM,
The All in All!
We Thank You Profoundly For Your Precious Word,
Which Your Have Preserved Through Your People To This Day!

LORD, Thank You for this little item of Scripture,
which not only Shows Your Promise to Abraham,
but the actual FACT that he purchased the piece of Property in question.
And just like a modern real estate transaction,
You include The Seller's name, the Buyer's name, the Boundaries of the Property, and the Agreed Price!
And yet we KNOW that what is on that site NOW does not honor You, the True God of Abraham.

Dear Abba, We Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
And for those within her gates.
Almighty God, We pray so Fondly for Your Beloved!
We Pray that as You Call Them Home,
from the East and From The West,
From The North and from the South,
From Out of the Lands of Persecution and Bitterness,
Of Paganism and Slavery and Bondage,
Of places that were never really home to them,
Places that only brought famine, infertility, widowhood, and abandonment,
and bring them Home to Peace and Abundance and Your Provision.

Abba, Father, We Pray for Your Beloved People,
Who despite Persecutions and Pogroms,
Exile and Slavery,
Holocaust and Now Denial of Their History,
have probably contributed more to Western Civilization
than any other People Group!

We ask for forgiveness for ourselves,
Dear Father, and we Pray for Our Nation.
We ask You to reverse the trends of evil and selfishness
that have taken hold in our own Land.
We beg that You will restore Faith in You,
The One True God,
and that Our own Nation will Once Again be Known
as one who keeps Her Promises to Her Friends and Allies,
and NOT as A Truce-Breaker.

Abba Father, How we long for that Day,
When You will remove From Your Holy Places
ANYTHING that does not Honor You,
and You ALONE.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem, For Israel,
and For The Jewish People.
We Thank You Profoundly For That Tiny Nation
that sits at the Very Crossroads of History,
At the Nexus of Three Continents,
A Holy Witness to The Ultimate Truth of Your WORD!
For it is Not By Might,
Not By Power,
But By Your Spirit that the enemy will be overcome.

We Pray For Bibi Netayahu, and the Leaders of Israel
May They Receive Wisdom from You to do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

The Ceiling at Machpelah

Today we read about Abraham's legal purchase of the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron in order to have a Private Burial Place for his family.
Buried in the Cave are:
Abraham and Sarah(not Hagar)
Rebeccah and Isaac(not Ishmael)
And Jacob(Israel) and Leah (not Esau).

Yet the site is dominated by a huge mosque.

I have been there.
There is a "heaviness" around the place that is difficult to describe, but it IS spiritual, and NOT VERY NICE, if you catch my drift.

Come and Pray for the peace of Jerusalem in these Troubled and Perilous Times, Dear Prayer Warriors!

May we serve only the Captain of the Lord of Hosts, as the battle for Israel & her lovely city approaches. He will be her Master & Protector, and in His zeal He will perform His ultimate plan. All glory, power & honor is due Him Who sits on the throne. Amen.

A Jewish Man Prays
In the "Jewish Section" of the Cave of Machpelah Complex
He is not allowed near the actual tomb of his ancestors

Thank You, Jackv! I LOVE that Graphic.
It reminds me of the Psalm where it says that The LORD records every one of our tears, and keeps them in a little bottle.

Never Again.

Never.

The heaviness you refer to around the Temple leaves me with such an impression. It just feels like a gathering storm, doesn't it?? That heaviness is spreading.

Psalm 75

Thanksgiving for God’s Wondrous Deeds
To the leader: Do Not Destroy.
A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

1We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks; your name is near.
People tell of your wondrous deeds.

2At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
3When the earth totters, with all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep its pillars steady.
Selah
4I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast’,
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
5do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with insolent neck.’

6For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up;
7but it is God who executes judgement,
putting down one and lifting up another.
8For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed;
he will pour a draught from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
9But I will rejoice* for ever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

Hebron in the 1930's

Yes. I agree with you, Jackv, about that "heaviness". There are two other places on Planet Earth where I felt the exact same feeling, (not to get overly mystical about it!).

One was on the Temple Mount Itself, when I was about to enter The Dome of the Rock Mosque.
It was pouring rain, and I had already removed my shoes, and it was as if an invisible force field would NOT allow me to enter the Mosque!
So I put my soaking wet shoes back on and slogged away, knowing I would probably never get to see the inside of that building.

The OTHER place where I felt that "spirit" was at the Gates of Dachau Concentration Camp, on Display at The Museum of the American Military, in Newport News, VA.
Even though there was no glass around the gate, the "invisible force field" was there, and would not allow my hand to touch it.

I am a very curious person, and have to see and touch EVERYTHING.

But these were three times that I was NOT ALLOWED to TOUCH.

Like I said...

I don't want to get overly "mystical", but it is a TRUE STORY!
This is why I pray every day that the LORD will remove from His Holy Places EVERYTHING that does not Honor HIM.
