Catholic Word of the Day: CITIES OF REFUGE, 06-16-10
CatholicReference.net ^ | 06-16-10 | Fr. John Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionary

Featured Term (selected at random):

CITIES OF REFUGE

Towns that, according to Jewish law, enjoyed the right of assylum. To justify his right to immunity, the fugitive had to prove that his crime was unpremeditated. He virtually became a prisoner in the city to which he fled. Six cities of refuge are listed in Joshua 20:7-9. The practice was carried over to Christianity in the so-called right of sanctuary.

I had NO idea, whatsoever, about this being Biblical. Oh, my!

Now I've got to get out my Bible and find out which cities were listed in Joshua!

Joshua 20
7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naph'tali, and Shechem in the hill country of E'phraim, and Kir'iath-ar'ba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.
8 And beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness on the tableland, from the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, from the tribe of Manas'seh.
9 These were the cities designated for all the people of Israel, and for the stranger sojourning among them, that any one who killed a person without intent could flee there, so that he might not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, till he stood before the congregation.

Many of these are phrases, etc. Don’t knock it, just learn.

We don’t live in a theocracy, unless you call liberalism a religion. The Catholic Church has been taken over by liberals; now they want to impose this blend of Catholiberalism on us by law and justify it by citing its Biblical source?

I was just shocked with the Biblical source. This is only a dictionary, but it would seem that the liberalism is coming through.

For me, something to think and pray about.

Sorry, I was just being a wise guy :-) Maybe it should be titled “Catholic Word/Concept of the Day” then people would be less likely to raise stupid objections to the title like I did.
