Some of us have agreed to pray this daily from today, July 1 through July 9. Our hope is for the grace to let God's love be more apparent in our exchanges, and more known in our hearts.

38”Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
39”Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40for whoever is not against us is for us. 41I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.

John 14:

1Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you: because I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I shall go, and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will take you to myself; that where I am, you also may be. 4And whither I go you know, and the way you know. 5Thomas saith to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. 7If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him, and you have seen him.

John 8:

31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. 32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free? 34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. 35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. 36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

A privilege to be part of so salutary (I use the word advisedly) an undertaking!

BTW, have you thought to ping the Keepers of ye Ping Lists, with a statement of intent? Naturally, I'm far too self-effacing to do the honors . . . ;-)

I just remembered (and searched for) the FR Master Ping List -- a list of ping lists with their custodians. It's outdated now -- spring of 2007. I found another thread (June 2009) discussing updating it (and some people added to it newer ping lists they keep), but I don't know if a more recent complete update was ever compiled.

Thank you for the opportunity. Sometimes the discussions on the net (used to be called “the news”) become so worrisome it is necessary to hear a soft word to turn away the wrath that so easily overcomes us.

I’m in. From the heart. Thank you for sending this. I ask forgiveness from anybody I have offended because of my lack of insight, lack of patience, irascibility, etc (where’s that thesaurus of faults??!)

May I ask you -—PLEASE!-— to re-send this to us for the next 9 days? I don’t want to forget to pray this prayer, but I’m so thud-headed...

What’s the emoticon for thud-headed? =:^}

The Eastern Rites and Lutherans pray Psalm 141 daily as part of the service of Evening Prayer (Vespers).

“Set a watch before my mouth, O Lord, and guard the door of my lips”.

In a cyber age we would do well to consider that verse before hitting the “send” or “post” buttons!

“Set a watch before my fingers, O Lord”.

I can do this for a novena. Might I recommend adding this as well:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

I certainly wouldn’t discourage anyone from praying this prayer.

Well, as Click and Clack say, It’s our humility that makes us great.

As Dawg says, Praying for humility is weird: if you think the prayer has been granted, it hasn’t.

So, fatima, are you in? I’m putting you on my list (which I will email to God.)

Well, FWIW, here's my alleged thinking. One of my heroes of the Gospels is that father who said, "Lord, I believe. Help thou my unbelief."

The truth is my faith, my love, my hope, all the virtues are weak in me. The one thing I am still learning, slowly and sometimes painfully, is that when I have a momentary gift of insight and see some great lack in myself, my first response must always be to thank God for the uncomfortable but saving insight, and to ask Him to supply my lack.

So I think I must say that He will supply the deficiencies of our Love for Him and for the Truth who is His Son. It's our place to pray and to praise, to beg and to thank. And really, this Litany is all about that, about asking Him to give us what we need to do what He wants.
