God is mocked all the time. Sometimes the consequences come immediately but much more often the consequences will be faced mainly in the hereafter. This seems to be a case of people hyped up emotionally and animalistically being funneled into a narrow area and having the exit to that narrow area closed before the entrance at the other end. In other words, poor planning and stupid people who had only one thing on their minds.

Yes, God does send messages to us to change or repent through bad things.

Poor planning and stupid people are one of God's favorite tools to carry out his will. We saw this clearly with Joseph's brothers. What they intended for evil, God used for good.

Yes, God’s plans cannot be thwarted by man and He often turns bad to good but I disagree with the implication that the disaster was an “Act of God” as the term goes. I don’t believe God caused that disaster anymore than I believe the Westboro Church nuts that God explodes IEDs under our soldiers due to the U.S. homosexual tolerance. I do believe the disaster can turn into something good if it causes people to think twice about their priorities and values.

We could argue about that for a while, but the main event looks pretty bad from the pictures over at kreuz.net.

Incidentally, the death toll is now 21. RIP.

I'm not sure why we would: there is plenty of minimal techno music that - apart from a muted 4/4 beat - sounds like Bach or Haydn for the 21st century.

but the main event looks pretty bad from the pictures over at kreuz.net.

Again, it's not qualitatively different than something you would see at a typical American spring break getaway - characterizing it as more decadent that US college students partying at a Tijuana club would be silly.

Neither are acceptable behavior - and it would be ridiculous to suggest that electronic music is what makes it that way.

You’re not winning me over. Neither myself nor any of my Catholic friends would attend or allow their children to attend Spring Break in the USA.

My children will never be allowed anywhere near a spring break gathering either.

My point is that if we are going to characterize the Duisburg stampede as a direct act of the Almighty against a decadent gathering, then there is no reason why every spring break gathering in the US or "pride parade" in the world should not be accompanied by similar mass deaths.

The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike.

And my other point is that the behavior of these paradegoers is not necessarily a function of the music the parade organizers favor.

I think the activities going on at Spring Break USA are quite appalling from what little I've seen on television, but in any event, we don't see the deaths from drug overdoses or the resultant abortions which take place in the wake of the event either.
