[CATHOLIC/ORTHODOX CAUCUS] The manufacturing of the cynical lie that Pope Benedict is ‘gay’

Over the past couple of weeks elements of the media have cynically  manufactured a lie about Pope Benedict XVI. Through sheer, monotonous repetition and daily coverage they have sought to fix this lie as an established truth in the minds of their readers and in the collective memory of the news. In two weeks there are hundreds of websites churning up the lie.

The unfounded lie that they have sought to engineer is that the Holy Father is a homosexual. The tissue of this most flimsy of  lies is drawn from  the fact that the Holy Father is celibate, has a celibate personal secretary, like all Pope’s before him, and that he pays attention to his appearance in public.

These are the basic ingredients from which journalists have concocted their lie, and they have spread it throughout the world by reporting the splenetic words of a notorious crank, Hutton Gibson, whose only claim to fame is that he is the father of a celebrity, Mel Gibson.  The fact that Hutton Gibson is a Holocaust denier is ignored in the feeding frenzy of the 24 7 news cycle. What gives the story traction is that this crank is the father of a A list celebrity.

In a shameless attempt to add credibility to the lie the journalists state that Hutton Gibson, and his son, are devout Catholics. In their ignorance they can’t tell the difference between a Roman Catholic and a schismatic Sede Vacationist, who doesn’t recognise Pope Benedict as being the Pope!

Now we enter the next phase in the manufacturing of the lie when  journalists write about Pope Benedict’s ‘homosexuality’ as if its a proven fact beyond dispute. Here’s an example from the homosexual journalist Andrew Sullivan, writing for The Atlantic magazine:

‘At times, it seems to me, his gayness is almost wince-inducing. The prissy fastidiousness, the effeminate voice, the fixation on liturgy and ritual, and the over-the-top clothing accessories are one thing. But what resonates with me the most is a theology that seems crafted from solitary introspection into a perfect, abstract unity of belief. It is so perfect it reflects a life of withdrawal from the world of human relationship, rather than an interaction with it. Of course, this kind of work is not inherently homosexual; but I have known so many repressed gay men who can only live without severe pain in the world if they create a perfect abstraction of what it is, and what their role is in it’.

Andrew Sullivan’s  attempt to create a pseudo- intellectual veneer around the lie aims to distance it from any suspicion associated with Hutton Gibson’s dubious reputation, which casts doubt on the whole project of black propaganda.

However, it does seem strange that homosexuals like Sullivan and Tatchell are attacking the Holy Father for being a ‘homosexual’! Even more strange is the sight of homosexuals criticising characteristics they identify as ‘homosexual’, such as ‘prissy fastidiousness, the effeminate voice, the fixation on liturgy and ritual, and the over-the-top clothing accessories’.

It seems that the Holy Father has become a mirror for their self-hate, their fundamental unease about their own sexual orientation.  All the mockery and sneering they hurl at Pope Benedict has got nothing to do with Joseph Ratzinger, and everything to do with who they are, and what they have become - brittle, angry, malcontents.

Oh my goodness! I’ve never heard that before.

(I keep thinking that the stupidity level of some people can’t get any lower...)

And then we discover it can go lower. Incredible isn’t it?

There is enormous strength in the Eucharist. Those that do not receive it regularly (or at all) cannot fathom (because they are weak, weak!) how those that do can live their lives for Christ alone.

first of all, the accusation is pointless....there is nothing wrong with being homosexual. Homosexual activity, however is indeed perverted and sinful. How anyone could accuse anyone of being homosexual, unless there was proof of homosexual behavior, is beyond me. You might be a homosexual at heart, but if you have never been involved in homosexual activity, who cares......and celebacy includes all sexual activity , hetrosexual or homosexual, if you are involved in neither, no one can say that you are either

But the accusation isn’t pointless. It is being used to make Benedict look like a meanspirited hypocrite. It’s really an evil thing to do.

I think they should be called “Sede Vacantists” rather than “Sede Vacationists.” They aren’t off playing golf.

“Sedevacantist” is the standard term. Either the writer was making a pun, perhaps having to do with the Messrs. Gibson’s vacations from reality, or he perpetrated a Funny.
