The stealing of the host is supposedly comparable with the willful destruction of a Tora-roll or the desecration of a graveyard.

This was according to the Press Office of the Diocese today. The media has regarded this crime with indifference.
The press text in the main speaks of "more disturbances and defacement of Catholic churches."

Most Tabernacles are locked. Hopefully these were unconsecrated (and therefore just bread).
A skilled locksmith can break most tabernacle locks if he has time.
These were consecrated, hence the name Hosts.
Most are not blessed until they are at the altar and ready to be given so I think all they got was flat bread.
Depends if the writer of th story knew what he was talking about? He may be calling it that but it may not be yet?
Priests rarely if ever put unconsecrated bread in tabernacles. They want to avoid confusion.
So if they are recovered, how will you know if they were consecrated before they were stolen? ANd can a host be re-consecrated? Or just once? THey can’t be destroyed, can they? Can they be used if they’ve been take around by nefarious individuals? ANd how do you describe the theft to officials? They will ask for a description of the stolen items. Do you describe them as the real presence of Jesus? Or do you describe them as wafers? Because that should matter.
So, I hope Obama can find someone who speaks Austrian to help deal with this ... oh wait, it happened to Christians so he could care less. I’m sure whomever did this will ultimately realize the error of their ways, at least when they have to meet Jesus face to face and explain why they wanted to desecrate His body.

I certainly couldn't... there are some people I've heard about who have "eyes of faith" who are believed to have that ability. As far as I'm aware it's only a rumor though.

Could but wouldn't under "normal" circumstances because a person would have no idea if they were in fact the stolen Hosts. They might be reverently consumed in private, probably by a cleric.
