September 30, 2010. If you want to visit the tomb of St. Peter and the Vatican necropolis, its no longer necessary to book tickets and travel to Rome.
The Vatican website now offers an exciting virtual tour through interactive high quality images. With just one click you can skip the queues and get into the foundations of St. Peter's Basilica.
The virtual tour also includes explanations of the most relevant details of the necropolis, and a map showing your location at all times within the necropolis towards the tomb of St. Peter.
You will have one of the best guides possible for your visit: Cardinal Angelo Comastri, president of the Fabbrica of St Peters, which looks after the necropolis.
An amazing look at the origins and construction of St. Peter's Basilica, available from any computer in the world.

Same here MNlurker...a good friend of mine was ordained as a Deacon at St Peter’s. He studied right there in Rome....we got the tour personally.
The ceremony was amazing. It was at the back altar. There were Cardinals and Priests from all over...just an incredible faith building trip and experience. Imagine the organs and the choir singing and playing together while the graduates,Cardinals and Bishops all walk down the isle. All while sight seer’s where in the front part of the Basilica.
A trip my wife and I will never forget. 8 days in Rome and Florence....incredible.
I was there for my college roommates ordination. Ordination took place at the Basilica of Old St. Mary. His first mass was celebrated in the Lithuanian Chapel right below St. Peter’s. He celebrated his second mass just inside the walls of Vatican City in a small church just inside the entrance just west of St. Peter’s Square. Getting stopped by Swiss Guard can be a bit intimidating!! Personal tours of St. Peters and the catacombs. Taking part in a small American catholic mass (20 of us) in St. John the Baptist.
Spent two weeks over Christmas (midnight mass, etc) and unforgettable.
There goes my whole morning.
Thanks, and very interesting.
Wow...did he study at Pontifical North American College?
My buddy knew no Italian and had a year to learn it.
Vatican tour was very interesting. The murals, incredible...more importantly, I never had one bad meal whatsoever.
we were there right after 9-11. They were doing a mock terrorist attack one morning near the hotel where we were meeting friends across town. Had to walk because no taxi driver wanted to venture into that area because traffic was at a standstill. Best thing we could have done was walk. We saw all the side alleys and cafe’s and shops along with homes set back inside the city....
Great memories.
Thanks! Amazing! Praise Jesus!
Very cool. Thank you.
