With Pope Benedict XVI's Anglicanorum Coetibus clearing away the obstacles for Anglicans to reunite with Rome, some Episcopal parishes are doing that very thing. This past Sunday, Baltimore's Mount Calvary Episcopal Church voted to join the Catholic Church, making it the first congregation in Maryland to do so.
The small Anglo Catholic parish at Madison Avenue and Eutaw Street was feeling increasingly alienated from the Episcopal Church as it accepted priests who did not believe in what most of the congregation saw as the foundations of the faith, according to Warren Tanghe, a former Episcopal priest who is now attending St. Mary's Seminary in Roland Park and preparing for ordination in the Catholic church….
Tanghe said that while the ordination of gays, lesbians and women has gotten a lot of press attention, he believes that the members of the congregation at Mount Calvary also were upset with other fundamental issues, he said.
"There are some Episcopal clergy who openly question or say they do not believe that Jesus was God and man … who say they do not believe that the father and the son and the Holy Ghost are one triad of God … who do not believe the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ."

I wonder if that means we can look forward to "Mount Holy Olive Second Baptist Zion Church of God in Christ of Resurrected Latter-Day AME Hallelujah Jesus Catholic Parish" someday... That one could be a bit tricky.

I’m glad my fellow Episcopalians are joining the rest of us who have crossed the Tiber. But isn’t it amazing that a small parish like that can generate enough musical talent to perform Byrd, Gregorian Chants, Tallis, de Vittoria, etc.? Next they’ll be tackling Palestrina! That’s incredible. I may have to trot up to Balmer to hear this.
If you rehearse with attention and have a good director, this is all quite do-able. We have done the Victoria "O quam gloriosum", the Byrd "Ave Verum Corpus", the Lassus "Adoramus te", the Batten "O Sing Joyfully" (which is a delight to sing, by the way!) No Byrd Mass yet, but no reason why we couldn't - our standard festival Mass is the Mozart "Spaurmesse" in C major and it's fairly tricky in spots.
Lovely music, indeed. I’m an anglophile when it comes to Church music, anyway, so maybe this union will encourage Catholic parishes to use that vast wealth of gorgeous music used up till now by the Anglican Church.
nuts, these guys are more Catholic than Catholics themselves. We NEED them! Thank God they’re coming to revitalize The Church
So the fact that Elizabeth wouldn't touch him shows just how good his music is.
Seems to me that Catholics have a duty to sing his music, out of solidarity, aside from the fact that it is truly marvelous.
