In Christ Alone lyrics

Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save

?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

It just wasn’t the Catholic Church.

Ya know, if they would say the catholic church (small "c" which only means UNIVERSAL), I wouldn't really have too much to say about it seeing as how the writers of the NT were part of the body of Christ, it's just this glib "we" junk that makes me itch as if the Roman Catholic Church has always existed (they wish!).

We know what Catholics in their theological hair splitting...

Because they don't hold to Scripture as the rule of their faith we can add just about anything after that.

Once their hierarchy decided they were the only ones who could properly understand Scripture and that "tradition" was equal to Scripture in importance they began the long process of wandering lost in the wilderness because they had lost their compass. It's part of the reason they mock us Bible believing Christians. They can't understand how we can be so confident in our beliefs, because they aren't.

Amen...and just think, he actually DID make “text” out of rocks! Moses had the Ten Commandments engraved by the hand of God on the tables of stone, didn’t he?

What constitutes the (big C) Catholic Church today cannot be found in the Scriptures so some kind of imaginary history has to be created.

Synonyms (Grouped by Similarity of Meaning) of verb worship

Sense 1:
idolize, idolise, worship, hero-worship, revere - adore

Sense 2:
worship - reverence, fear, revere, venerate

Sense 3:
worship - attend, go to

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

I’m thinking there must be another

Vatican Alice In Wonderland School of Theology and Reality Mangling text book to supplement their Daffynitionary.

Maybe it’s called something like

WEASEL WORDS SUITABLE FOR SUBSTITUTION.

“Because it happens to be the historical truth and our Church is a truth-telling institution.”

The “perpetual virginity” of Mary is not “the historical truth”; it is “the historical belief” of your church. It cannot be proved by logic, evidence or science. There are no means to prove that “perpetual virginity” corresponds to the actual state of Mary and in fact, the contrary evidence from scripture and an extra-biblical source is more probative than the isegesis and tradition of your church.

That being the case your second statement “our Church is a truth-telling institution” fails since the “perpetual virginity” of Mary is a major tenet of your church.

annalex asked:
“Who wispered in your ear?”

Martin Luther ... and he whispered a whole more too.

Holy Tradition maybe be both knowable and transmittable, but that is beside the point ... which is a point to which you seem to remain impervious. Nevertheless, thank you for the compliment.

“... from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:15) Scripture is sufficient, yes. And it needs to be taught as well, yes.

Thank you also for making me see once more the debt of thanks I owe to my parents and former pastors, through whom as His instruments God graciously gave me to understand His truth. To Him alone be glory, now and forever (to which my parents and former pastors, almost all of whom have by this year of our Lord 2010 been transferred from the church militant to the church triumphant, would, and even now do, give their heartfelt assent.

So, again, thank you, annalex.

Because the Church tells you so. If you believe the Scripture you believe the Church. The difference is that a Catholic believes the Church consistently and a Protestant -- when his pastor lets him.

Is that the best you can do, because the "Church" tells you so? The "Church" at one time told me that I had to fast from the night before prior to receiving communion, then they said only one hour before, now it's you can if you want to. The "Church" used to tell me I had to wear a veil over my head attending Mass - even if it was only a hanky or kleenex - now you don't have to. The "Church" used to tell me that only good, obedient Roman Catholics could ever go to heaven, now it's really anyone who just tries to do their best, regardless of whether they even believe in God or not - except those nasty "Protestants" - they are hell-bound for sure. There is no consistency there to believe that is why I base my faith on what God's holy word says.

What constitutes the ... [Roman] Catholic Church today cannot be found in the Scriptures so some kind of imaginary history has to be created.

INDEED. Along with fantasized meanings for ambiguous to unrelated Scriptures. . . .
turning half brothers and sisters into cousins . . .
pebbles into foundation stones and kings . . .
servants into RELIGIOUS ELITES . . .
!!!!TRADITIONS!!!! of man into dogma straight from Mary's fantasized Queenly edicts . . .
Mary into comandeering Holy Spirit's job of wooing folks to Christ;
Mary into comandeering Christ's job of Savior;
Mary into comandeering Christ's being the only route to The Father;
Mary into comandeering Holy Spirit into bigamy; The list of Biblical and spiritual outrages seems endless.

USUALLY, patterned after some outrageous fantasy that makes Alice's rabbit hole stuff look tame by comparison.

“If the Catholic church meant that He had cousins, why use the word for *brother*?”

We’ve been through all that and Matthew 1:24-25 at least 50 times before here on FR, M. Now, no Orthodox will ever say you have to believe what we believe. But 2000 years of consistent Church history and praxis ought to be acknowledged. If you choose to believe that the Holy Spirit took a 1600 year nap after Pentecost, that is certainly your prerogative. You won’t mind, I trust, if I and the other Orthodox and Latins here find your theology “unorthodox”, like we found that of, say, Arius or the more recent “bring your own snake” crowd?

“Which is why I don’t do it [pray the Creed].”

Your confidence in the 4th century work of a group of old Greek and Latin speaking bishops makes me smile. I am glad you find a use for what they did, even if you can’t accept the reasons why they came up with what they came up with. But, as I asked before, are you an Arian? Are you a believer in the Trinity?

Believing the Bible is the inerrant 'word' of God is about ridiculous as believing in the Easter Bunny.

WOW...This long rant sounds like something out of the enemy of God's playbook. "Screwtape Letters" come to mind. It would be interesting to hear how one might fair speaking these exact words before the Christ.... I don't think He would be amused.

What does Mary always having been a virgin prove anyway?

Absolutely nothing.

Her immaculate conception and perpetual virginity play no role in God’s plan of redemption for mankind, nor does it have any effect on Christ’s work on the cross.

I don’t care how long a lie has been around and whose believed it.

Scripture says in all four gospels that Jesus had brothers. Two of them name them.

For the Catholic church to claim that Mary was always a virgin when it claims that it wrote the Bible and included that Jesus had brothers and named them by name, is ludicrous.

Really quite stunning the language they used. There is nothing in any of the faiths I am familiar with who could say the mouth which spoke these words came from the Father..not by any means. Rather...they do appear to be copies of the Father of lies. Really I am stunned!

Probably not. I'm a world class sinner. I don't pretend to "know" I'll be saved, and I pray God forgives me.

Hello Quix...well I thought I had just about heard it all until some of the psoters here spoke out as they have. To see their words speak about the scriptures and other believers, beside those of the Catholic church, is plenty enough for any to want to stay clear of such ones. Even the Pope acknowledges Christians of other faiths....those who have denied this, and worse degraded those of the body of Christ are in for a very rude awakening. Amazing hatred as I have not seen toward the things of God and His people.
