Dan is my favorite of the Old Testament - that your brother carries his name is a good sign. Today he is in the lion’s den, but Our Lord will carry him home. I will pray for him.

Why is that a sin?

Maybe you need to start a Chesterton ping list!

It knows where the Bible came from.

I've always found it curious that people of other Christian religions don't wish to discuss the history of their Bible. Usually they don't know and don't care, while at the same time holding fast to sola scriptura.

If you have a Chesterton ping list, can you add me? I should read this and other things by him.

Why is that a sin?

The sin is in knowing the leaf is green, yet claiming it is something else.

It's in knowing an eternal truth, yet claiming that all is gray...

Why does that matter? Just because one says something, doesn’t mean it changes anything about how something really is. It means the other is either incorrect, or is using a different reference or definition. I don’t see how that can be considered a sin.

I don’t have one; I’ll compile links, however. I was talking to Jo.

It would be presumptuous of me to speak for Chesterton, but I believe this conversation he speaks of is interpersonal. In other words, by knowing in your heart an eternal truth (the greenness of the leaf), and yet denying this truth (calling it gray), you've lied to yourself.

To deny an eternal truth -- if you know it to be one -- whether to yourself or to others, is to miss the mark.

Now if you don't believe in eternal truths, you may still call a green leaf gray.

That merely makes you a common liar.

I think Chesterton meant that all sin was really about pretending that something bad is good.

Right — impugning the known truth is a sin against the Holy Spirit!

Nothing is more likely just now than that the corruption of representative government will lead to the rich breaking loose altogether, and trampling on all the traditions of equality with mere pagan pride.

Timeless words of the reality of the world we are living in from Chesterton.
