Coptic Churches around the country expect an influx of Egyptian Muslims to share with the country's Christians their Christmas Eve mass
Although 2011 started tragically, I feel it will be a year of eagerly anticipated change, where Egyptians will stand against sectarianism and unite as one, Father Rafaeil Sarwat of the Mar-Mina church told Ahram Online. The Coptic priest was commenting on the now widespread call by Muslim intellectuals and activists upon Egyptian Muslims at large to flock to Coptic churches across the country to attend Coptic Christmas Eve mass, to show solidarity with the nation's Coptic minority, but also to serve as "human shields" against possible attacks by Islamist militants.
Mohamed Abdel Moniem El-Sawy, founder of El-Sawy Culture Wheel was among the promiment Muslim cultural figures who first floated the bold initiative.
This is it. It is time to change and unite, asserted journalist Ekram Youssef, another notable sponsor of the intiative, in a telephone interview with Ahram Online. She added that although it is the governments responsibility to act and find solutions to bring an end to such violations, "it is time for Egyptian citizens to act to revive the true meaning of national unity."
Following last year's Coptic Christmas Eve attack on congregants as they left their church in the Upper Egyptian city of Naga Hamady, Youssef created the crescent and cross logo with the slogan A nation for all - that was adopted during the past couple of days by many of Egypts 4 million Facebook users as their profile picture.
Mariam Yassin, a 24 year old video editor, will take Thursday off to travel to Alexandria to attend the mass at the Two Saints Church. I am not going as a representative of any religion. I am supporting all those who died as a result of.........

Commendable, but it’s not like muslims haven’t shown a willingness to kill other muslims in Iraq and other places.
He is doing this at the risk of his life.
Ping!
Perhaps the Holy Spirit has reached these people. May God bless them & keep them safe.
I’m still skeptical of trusting muzzies, though.
If they mean it... I say to them, “thank you.”
This is what many of us have been thinking muslims should be doing, we should applaud these people for taking a risk to their lives and finally standing up to the terrorists!
I consider this to be precisely the kind of action we conservatives have been asking “moderate” Muslims to engage in to demonstate that they are indeed “moderate”
While similar actions have been far too rare, we need to give kudos where kudos are due.
This is a demonstration of respect, not disdain or apathy, for the beliefs of others. Other “moderate” Muslims - take note.
I’m suspicious.
I hope they screen them for bombs.
If they aid the Infidel, they are as worthy of death as the Infidel.
Let us hope this movement causes reforms within Egypt. Egypt isn’t like the rest of the Islamic would. Most Islamic Comedians are Egyptians, They are the home of Belly-Dancing—seen by many as sinful. Egypt is the home of Muslim televangelism. Maybe, just maybe, there is hope in the world.
The good Muslim/bad Muslim routine is a facade.
They're *Muslims*, people. The "good" Muslim doesn't exist!
Tell the "human shield" that God's people don't need Satan's body guards, thanks.
I think this is a good idea. Hope it catches on in other places.
Good people of all stripes working together against evil - nice - works for me.
It’s a start.
God can use many ways to reach into people’s hearts and only He can bring good out of something terribly evil. The Coptic Martyrs may be one of them.
I was about to post the article above, and ran a search first to look for dupes.
Regarding your comment, maybe you can think of these human shields as potential converts to Christianity. I appreciate what they're doing, and perhaps the service will rub off on them.
Well don't.
It's a ruse, a diversion. Half of them are likely to blow up if one of them sneezes.
Neah.
I think its a lot better than that.
I hope it is, anyway.
Of course, other Moslems won’t have any issues with killing them since they’re OBVIOUSLY heretics.
And then machine gun the bastards as the go inside to pray.
