Arizona shootings: Why did God allow it?
Washington Post ^ | Jan. 11, 2010 | Julia Duin

Last Saturday's shooting tragedy at a Tucson, Ariz., supermarket is stunning in its randomness. ... Whenever these awful tragedies: Columbine, September 11, Virginia Tech and others, happen, there comes the theodicy question. Why did God allow this evil to happen to innocent people? Why did perfectly innocent bystanders at a Tucson supermarket on a Saturday morning find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time?

This is the vulgar world, not perfect Heaven.

The world was never represented by God as being some nirvana absent from evil, quite the contrary.

This event significantly altered the time-line. Everything is no longer as it should be.

I don’t recommend reading the comments at the source. Very depressing.

Good Question.

BUT, the answer is always the same & it doesn’t take a degree in nuclear physics:

To test us!!

AND the result also is always the same:

WE FAIL!!

The hoped for result: To drive us to GOD’S GRACE & forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Most often: UNSUCCESSFUL!!

>Why did God allow this evil to happen to innocent people?<

.
WaPo, a liberal rag, talking about God? First of all, He had nothing to do with it.

Liberals need to find blame with someone, don’t they?

Perhaps this writer hasn't noticed, but over the millienia, God has allowed much, much worse than this happen. Things to which this sad event is as a match to a nuclear fire.

So... why? Good question, and one that I've often pondered myself. Ultimately, as men, we really have no answers. You just have to be ready to take care of yourself, as much as you can.

And if God chooses to intervene, great. If not, well then, we have to make do.

...sigh...another 'why did God allow it piece'.

Ok, I've got to give my personal thoughts on these kind of pieces/questions. No, I'm not interested in getting into a religious debate. If you don't agree with me, fine, that's you're right. Asking the question 'why would God allow this...' is in my opinion an asinine question. Personally, I believe that one of the reasons God put us on Earth was so that we would face 'trials' and that each of us is given the 'right to chose'. God does not make us do anything, God does not force us into any situation. Trials, temptations, burdens, events happen all around us and we make our own personal choices. Why did God let this man gun down these people? He didn't, that man 'chose' to gun down those people and ultimately he will be judged for it. Ok, off the soapbox, I'm done.

I wonder if people who have a crisis of faith over a natural disaster or shooting incident ever think that their own sins are just as much a challenge to their thesis that life should be perfect if God is good.

All kinds of bad stuff happened in the Bible. God never said bad stuff wouldn’t happen. Quite the opposite. He said, “In this world you will have trouble.”

The nominally atheist WaPo wants to blame G-d instead of blaming Dupnik. What exactly does Dupnik do with his 1513 employees and $118 million budget?
