ISTR that one of these notes claimed that 'resistance to tyrants is pleasing to the Lord', and this angered king James, and he commissioned his own English Bible project to counter the 'subversive' Geneva Bible.

That quote is widely attributed to Thomas Jefferson. Although a form of it also appears in some Willie Shakespeare and Thomas Moores verses - not word for word exactly, but almost.
