Dontcha just love how they jump from metaphor to literal to metaphor to literal and so on, all within one passage of Scripture?

So, here in John 6, Jesus says.... "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. "

Now, to take that literally, that means that Catholics should never get hungry or thirsty again. I wonder how many have?

John 6:40 "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day."

Nothing about the eucharist here.... Just believing. Aren't we supposed to take THAT literally?

So when Jesus says in verses 51-58... " I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. 52The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever. "

I've been to a number of Catholic funerals. Catholics die all the time. Does that mean they weren't really saved?

It's really ironic that Catholics say that taking communion is *accepting* Christ and that one has to do that to be saved, but once isn't enough. You have to do it constantly to be saved. Nowhere does Jesus say that. Where'd they get that from?

And not only that, they claim that taking communion saves you. Baptism saves you. Works save you.

And after doing all that, press any Catholic about their surety of making it to heaven, they don't know. They won't find out til they get there, despite doing all the things that they claim impart salvation to them.

IOW, it certainly appears that they don't REALLY believe that those things save after all.

since the Eucharist is nourishment for the soul, we who partake in a worthy manner will never die spiritually. but, all ex-catholics know that already, don’t they?

I used the words of Jesus, the thing that Christians are criticized for not paying enough attention to.

And the problem with that is.......

Ohhh,.....

Now it's a spiritual truth.

Riiiggghhttt....

Literal, to metaphorical, to spiritual, to literal, to metaphorical and so on.

So tell me, what is the criteria for deciding to jump from one to the other in mid passage?

1 Peter 3:21

“baptism, which corrsponds to this, NOW SAVES YOU, not as a removal of the dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the ressurrection of Jesus Christ”

do the people who claim to follow the Bible ever read it? Baptism is not a type or figure!!

this is one area that we both are correct, when you eat bread at what you probably call the Lords Supper, you are merely eating bread. when i pray, “Lord, i am not worthy to receive You, but only say the Word, and i shall be healed” at Mass and say “Amen” when the Host is offered with the words, “ The Body of Christ”, i am receiving what Jesus promised, His Body.

the question is, why would one eat bread, when they can receive the Lord?

I used the words of Jesus

And the problem with that is.......

You used some selected words of Jesus, and skipped over large portions of the Bible where Jesus specifically instructs us how to act.

1 Corinthians 10:17

“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread”

Jesus is one, the Church is one, the bread is one, the Faith is one, there is one Baptism.

is that really so hard to understand?

let me share the end of the Eucharistic prayer said at every Mass:

Through Him, With Him, In Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours Almighty Father, forever and ever, Amen.

Beautiful!
For my non Catholic brothers and sisters, the “Him” referred to in the prayer is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
i might add, also for the benefit of some on here, it says “all honour and glory” and look at that, no mention of Mary!!

Was there something

incredibly difficult

about learning the lesson the first time

on such scores?

Or do y’all just love having to do classes again and again?

Regardless . . . what a klunky way to avoid dealing with the facts.

I think I’d be embarrassed.

And not only that, they claim that taking communion saves you. Baptism saves you. Works save you. And after doing all that,

Catholics - the "Jesus is not enough" crowd. They have to do something (communion/baptism/works) and pray to Mary to intervene on their behalf.

press any Catholic about their surety of making it to heaven, they don't know.

They don't know because they don't know Jesus, The Word. Because if they knew Him, they would know! The result of man made teachings/traditions which nullify The Word.

So I noticed. Obviously 77% of RC's have no clue who Jesus is.

73% (highest) of Pentecostal/Foursquare believers strongly affirm that Christ was sinless on earth, with Catholics, Lutherans and Methodists being tied at 33%, and the lowest being among Episcopalians with just 28%

the Catholic Saul sure had to do something in Acts 22:16, maybe he didn’t know Jesus either!
again, another alena morrissette “isn’t it ironic” moment, without the Catholic Church setting the canon of Scripture and following the command of Jesus in Matthew 28, no one alive would know who Jesus is. aren’t you glad Jesus decided to use the the Catholic Church, to teach all nations, whether in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th,11th,12th,13th,14th,15th,16th,17th,18th,19th,20th and 21st century?

the Bible says there will be a great falling away, before the end of the world. we are witnessing this period, in my opinion. if you don’t believe Jesus was sinless, you are not a Christian, Catholic or otherwise, i don’t care what you call yourself.

I’m delighted we can agree on something.

I was actually saddened that RC’s were so low on that score.

However, I’d like for those involved with your system to learn from such statistics and, by God’s Grace, change them.

Most of my fierce stuff is sounding an alarm on things that need to be corrected.

I like to be an encourager . . . and I encourage RC’s when I can.

But my main brief is sounding alarms.
