A vial containing blood drawn from Pope John Paul II shortly before he died will be installed as a relic in a Polish church soon after his beatification later this year, an official said Monday. Piotr Sionko, the spokesman for the John Paul II Center, said the vial will be encased in crystal and built into the altar of a church in the southern city of Krakow that is opening in May. The exact date of the opening is not yet known, but it should be shortly after John Paul's beatification at the Vatican on May 1........... "It was the cardinal's proposal," Sionko said. "He is of the opinion that this is the most precious relic of John Paul II and should be the focal point of the church." .........
"The idea of displaying the pope's relics has met with some reservations, even inside the Catholic Church. "The tradition of relics comes from medieval practices of teaching the Bible through images and symbols," said the Rev. Krzysztof Madel, a Jesuit priest in Nowy Sacz who has publicly questioned the usefulness of displaying John Paul's blood. "But in today's rationalized world the message should rather come through teaching about someone's life." After John Paul's death, some Polish officials said they hoped John Paul's heart would be removed from his body and returned to his homeland for burial. However, church officials dismissed any possibility of dismembering the body, saying the age had passed for that practice. Dziwisz said Friday that he has always been against dividing of the body, but that "relics have always existed and will always exist."

My point was that which you should already know: AP excels at inaccurate, slanted reporting. Taking their articles at face value, regardless of subject matter, is dangerous for your sanity. My comment was also meant to be somewhat humorous, at least, tongue-in-cheek. Just as a by-the-way, I will add two things.
The first is that you’ve put yourself in the same bowl as both NPR and the Huffington Post, both of whom feature this. I’d have thought that wasn’t your style, and while I realize your bias, I thought better of you, respectfully.

Piotr Sionko, the spokesman for the John Paul II Center, said the vial will be encased in crystal and built into the altar of a church in the city of Krakow, the Associated Press reports. The church, which is still under construction, will open sometime after the May 1 beatification.
The blood was drawn for medical tests shortly before the pontiff’s death on April 2, 2005. It is now in the possession of Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, the Archbishop of Krakow and former secretary of John Paul II.
Sionko said the cardinal proposed the idea of using the blood as a relic. “He is of the opinion that this is the most precious relic of John Paul II and should be the focal point of the church.”
The church, in Krakow’s Lagiewniki district, is part of a center devoted to cultivating the memory and the teaching of the late Pope, a former Archbishop of Krakow.
As part of Catholic tradition, the veneration of relics is a practice that recognizes the God-given sanctity of a saint or blessed and anticipates his or her bodily resurrection.
John Paul II’s blood would not be the first relic of its kind. The blood of St. Januarius is kept in the cathedral of Naples and liquefies every year on his feast day.
On the contrary, we are well aware of the superstition that exists within the Catholic church.

And how are the facts at the link you provided any different than the ones in the article?
It portrays it in a more positive light, no doubt, and no surprise, but does not contradict the basics of this article.
Even without the little addition of their commentary on the pope’s heart and discussion of relics, which anyone can see is not relevant to the issue, the essentials of the story are the same.
I really don’t want to knock the church, but if we are not to Judge others, why does the church Judge that some people are saints? It is the same Judgment to judge a sinner as a saint, and God says we as Christians are not to do that......just sayin’....

We are not to judge unless we wish to be judge by the same standard. And this is a reminder to be merciful as surely we will need mercy. When making a positive judgment about someone, there is no basis to refrain from judging (according to the biblical warning against judgment).

The Lutheran (Protestant) and Catholic division of the commandments both follow the one established by St. Augustine, following the then current synagogue scribal division.

The hunt for saintly (or Godly) relics is half silly superstition and half bad theology. Too bad so many put so much faith is items of this world.
It was not the erythrocytes of John Paul that made him holy.
Having his erythrocytes doesn't transfer holiness by proxy.
You make no sense and your smear is simply not true. Your Vatican link to the Catechism (http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm) lists 3 versions of the 10 commandments:
First is the un-numbered complete text of Exodus 20:2-17(which has the graven images language),
Second is the un-numbered complete text from Deuteronomy 5:6-21 (”You shall have no other gods before me”)
Third is the traditional catechetical numbered form, which INCLUDES the complete Second Commandment language from Deuteronomy within the first commandment (”I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.”)
