I think you make an important point. The Bible warns us not to get so attached to our spouses and children that it interferes with our most important relationship, with Jesus.
You can get too attached to a pet that it gets in the way of God’s will for you. It can be a trap.
Will I meet my beloved pets after death? Whatever God’s will in the mater is what I fervently hope for.
Our kids get to name the livestock. The three steers we have raised so far have been named; “Big Mac”, “Whopper”, and “Beef Jerky”...the last one was called “Jerk” on several occasions. Our kids know exactly where the meat on their plates come from.
There will be pets in heaven.
I don’t think I will see my particular pets, but I will have pets.
I really want a baboon.
Is this advocacy on your part? Do you off them to eat, do you eat them alive or do you graciously wait for them to die of their own volition?
I’ve heard that you should eat your meat uncooked.
Cats had better be in hell, despicable creatures..
Depends on the cat.
My cat is very gentle and loves to be petted. I could hold him forever and he’d let me.
Would you like to say all that to my cat? I haven’t yet cut her nails......
Except fish. I'm not sure about the whole fish in heaven as pets thing. Whales to carry around in your spaceship like in that Star Trek movie, but I'm not comfortable with fish as pets in heaven. Clams I guess, something like a pet rock that, but fish .... just seems fishy.
That’s not very nice....just because you don’t like cats doesn’t mean you should wish them to Hell. Cats and dogs alike can bring much joy to their owners.
It seems to me Jesus said there were many rooms in his father’s mansion, so I would say there are places for all of us, cats included.
“You see Mr. Simpson, a man, well, he’ll walk right into Hell with both eyes open. But even the Devil can’t fool a dog!”
Was that a twilight zone or outer limits episode?
Loved that one.
Ecc 3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.
Ecc 3:20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
Ecc 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth UPWARD, and the spirit of the beast that goeth DOWNWARD to the earth?
Luther believed they go to heaven ..
I tend to believe they do as well . Only man sinned in the fall..animals and nature continue as God designed them
I figure my dogs may be the only ones I know there..**GRIN**
Other interesting quotes on the subject:
“The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man’s.” ~Mark Twain, Letter to W. D. Howells, 4/2/1899
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
- Pudd’nhead Wilson’s Calendar
You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
The pug is living proof that God has a sense of humor. ~Margo Kaufman
Fox-terriers are born with about four times as much original sin in them as other dogs. ~Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat
I always like a dog so long as he isn’t spelled backward. ~G.K. Chesterton
The dog was created specially for children. He is the god of frolic. ~Henry Ward Beecher
Man is a dog’s idea of what God should be. ~Holbrook Jackson
I agree with what you say but, there is nothing in scripture to support it and if it were true, then we would have a proxy agency for them.
Since animals possess no agency then it can’t be true, even if I want it be.
If it were true then all animals would be in heaven, including cows of India.
No problem with your view but I can’t rationalize the possibility.
Don’t you think that in heaven, God will have tamed their “despicable natures”?
Ahhh spoil sport.... ;)
>>I really want a baboon.<<
My wife loved out kitties and will expect them to be there (she has a better shot at heaven than I do, I can tell you that!) but if she can add on, she won’t settle for anything less than a tiger, like the one Jasmine had in “Aladdin.”
There will be no pets “in heaven” because we will ultimately reside on a restored EARTH. A restored earth, such as is promised in scripture, will include a restored animal kingdom that behaves as it once did before the fall of mankind. Will our beloved pets be resurrected? Scripture is silent and I suspect it’s doubtful, but I believe that once all is made right we will have an Adamic relationship with animals, ie “pet” relationships we can’t even imagine.
Incidentally, Randy Alcorn’s book about heaven takes the same stance - “heaven” will actually be on earth.
It sort of goes back to the old saying: “Dogs have owners, cats have staff.”
