I've just read the thread at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2673911/posts
It concerns a man, a husband and father of six, who is in prison being tortured in Afghanistan. He is under sentence of death. He is standing up for his faith, even though it might be better for him if he did not. He is suffering greatly, and has appealed for help. His story and his letter can be found at the link above.
All us keyboard warriors for the church can certainly pray for him, and for his family, can we not? It is the least we can do. What will we say to Our Lord if we do not do even this much?
This is a Catholic Caucus thread. Here are the guidelines, from the Religion Moderator:
Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus.
For instance, if it says Catholic Caucus and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread.
The caucus article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.
There is no tolerance for posters coming onto a caucus thread claiming that they were once baptized into that belief and therefore are still a member of it due to the belief saying they are - even though they are not active in that belief and notoriously dispute that belief on “open” Religion Forum threads. The same holds for those who claim they are members because of their ancestry even though they are not active in that belief and notoriously dispute it on “open” RF threads.
That behavior is finessing the guidelines, it is flame baiting. No dice.
Also, there is little to no tolerance for non-members of a caucus coming onto the caucus thread to challenge whether or not it should be a caucus. Gross disruption usually follows.
If you question whether the article is appropriate for a caucus designation, send me a Freepmail. I’ll get to it as soon as I can.
Please offer a prayer, or pledge the rosary for this heroic martyr.
I like a prayerful rosary as a petition to God, however, there is one more thing we can do: Petition our own government! Everyone needs to let thier Congressional reprepresentatives know we are deeply upset as Americans who support our troops and their mission—that this could even happen by the Afghanis WE support. The Taliban did stuff like this. Why do we have to support a government that does this?
Could we each post a decade with a meditation and do all four mysteries?
Ex., the first Sorrowful mystery with a meditation of Christ’s agony in the garden?
I’m not sure how that would work. You would have to lead the beginning prayers.
Just a suggestion...
There is another thread about this man, that has contact information. I’m sorry I don’t have the link right now, when I get it, I’ll add it to this thread.
Do we know when he is set to be martyred?
Is there time to try to stop it?
I am not saying we shouldn’t pray, I will definitely do so, but what can we do through official channels?
If you can find out, and let us know, I would be thrilled to have that information on this thread. I can’t seem to locate the original thread, it has dropped off the edge of the earth, apparently.
I’m in.
Here’s the thread I was thinking of:

That is an excellent link, and has an online petition.
see the link on post 9 by cajuncow
There was a similar case in 2006 in which several Christian organizations, Amnesty International and even Condaleeza Rice as SOS got involved. The case was dismissed and a country found which would accept the man.
Here is the link to that

I have to go to work now so I will have to look later to see if I can find info about Said’s case and what the time line for him is.
Information on him seems to be scarce.
Until we know more and can do more, we do need to pray, pray, pray as our Blessed Mother always tells us to do.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Thank you SO MUCH!
Prayers are on the way.
Thank you, FRiend. My heart just breaks for this poor man, and I know he is not the only one who is in that position. The least we can do is pray for him.
There’s also a link on this thread, for anyone who wants to add to the petition for his release.
I will pray for this man and his family, and all those who are imprisoned or otherwise tortured for their belief in God.
It is criminal that our government says nothing about Islamic repression, torture and killing of “infidels”.
It’s heart breaking and enraging.
Thanks lj. It helps me when I pray, knowing that others are praying for the same intention. God save this poor man...
1. Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
2. The Apostles Creed: I BELIEVE in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
3. The Lord's Prayer: OUR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
4. (3) Hail Mary: HAIL Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen. (Three times)
5. Glory Be: GLORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Fatima Prayer: Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy.
Announce each mystery, then say 1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be and 1 Fatima prayer. Repeat the process with each mystery.
End with the Hail Holy Queen:
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve! To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears! Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus!
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Final step -- The Sign of the Cross
The Mysteries of the Rosary
By tradition, Catholics meditate on these Mysteries during prayers of the Rosary.
The biblical references follow each of the Mysteries below.
