Christians Need to Prepare for Normalization of Gay Marriage
Christian Post ^ | 02/26/2011 | Nathan Black

Though many Christians are going to try to deny "the obvious," evangelical leader Dr. Albert Mohler believes gay marriage is going to become normalized.

"I think it's clear that something like same-sex marriage is going to become normalized, legalized and recognized in the culture. It's time for Christians to start thinking about how we're going to deal with that," he said Friday on the Focus on the Family radio program.

Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was speaking in response to the Obama administration's decision this week to stop defending the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act – federal law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman – in the courts.

Conservative groups and Christians have criticized Obama for going against his duty as president to defend the law.

"When a president takes oath of office, he's upholding ... defending the laws of the United States of America," said Mohler, who also noted that DOMA had passed as a bipartisan effort.

"The White House has clearly made a calculation that it can do this now with far less political risk than it could even two years ago."

Though Obama has always expressed his desire to repeal DOMA, his personal view on marriage had been traditional.

While on the campaign trail, running as the Democratic presidential nominee, Obama asserted his belief that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. He added, while being interviewed by Pastor Rick Warren, that "for me as a Christian, it's also a sacred union. God's in the mix."

Recently, however, he has stated that his views on gay marriage are "evolving."

The Obama administration has been pro-gay since taking office two years ago and Mohler noted that there has been a long trajectory on the issue of gay marriage pointing to this day.

With the Justice Department now pulling its defense of DOMA, pending legal challenges against the federal law will likely result with the nullification of DOMA, Mohler predicted.

"You can say, the cards are pretty much stacked against DOMA," he illustrated.

He warned that when Christians feel threatened, they have to be careful not to lash out with a predictable response.

The Southern Baptist made it clear that he was not saying that they are giving up. Marriage is still an institution Christians need to save, particularly in their own community. But Christians also need to start learning how to deal with the shifting culture and even face the fact that they may lose a few from their flock.

"I think we're going to be surprised and heartbroken over how many people are going to capitulate to the spirit of the age," he noted. "We're going to find now that there may not be as many of us as we thought."

Nevertheless, Christians must be prepared to make marriage one of the many topics where parents have to have "the talk."

"It's interesting now that the world is so morally upside down that when we talk about marriage we have to make a distinction between natural marriage – heterosexual marriage – and this new thing that people are calling marriage," Mohler said.

"We have to prepare our children to be in a context in which they're going to be in a playground with children who have two dads or two moms or who knows what kind of combination will come."

Ultimately, the worldview or the belief that God designed marriage to be between a man and a woman only makes sense if one understands the Gospel, Mohler pointed out, which raises a critical point:

"This whole situation reminds us that we are, first of all, to be Gospel people who are fellow sinners ... saved by grace, with the responsibility to share the Gospel with others."

Other issues Christians should be to accept as ‘normal’:

1) Adult sex with Children

2) Killing children after the normal 9 month pregnancy as a reproductive right

3) Sharia Law

4) The State eliminating Home Schooling

5) Environmentalism as a religion

6) Bible Verses listed as Hate Speech

7) Liberation Theology,Economic Justice and Humanism as Christianity’s primary mission

8) the State seizing Church property

9) Satan equal to God

10) Islam killing Christians is a product of multiculturalism

I hope you are 100 percent right but it just seems inevitable. I can’t stand Obama.

I do not have to accept anything.

They can call it marriage all they like to me it will still be two queers living together.

They can make it legal they can even make it mandatory, but they cannot make me accept it.

If my Church starts marrying queers I will stop going.

If Catholics are forced to particip[ate in this farce we will go underground, and have services in secret.

Even many of the "marriages" that do occur have been seen to last a very short time. Now, the spearhead of the sodomite hoards is to export their "divorces," going to states that don't recognize homo-"marriage" and trying to "divorce." It has been attempted twice here in Texas (one instance is still being challenged) and in Colorado and several other states.

The only way we can lose this is if Republicans Congressmen in power sit on their hands. The case is overwhelmingly winable.

We should never stop opposing the legal sanction of homosexual unions falsely described as “marriage”. On the other hand, where they do become the law we should start our own “civil rights movement” that no one should be forced to recognize these unions against their will. We should insist that there be no legal sanctions against those who say no, including no sanctions against corporations as well as none against individuals. The right to be free from government coercion to accept these false unions is our civil right.

Civil divorce does not cut it in my Catholic church. Maybe elsewhere but not where I go to church.

“A Christian leader, of a seminary, folding. Pathetic.
It sounds like he’s ready to jump on board the homo-wagon. “

My sentiments exactly.

Let the defective rabble call they’re ‘union’ whatever they want.

It WILL NOT be a marriage. It may be something, but marriage no.

Marriage has a definition.

Its like a bunch of triangles getting together and deciding they are circles. Then complaining the circles are discriminating against them because the circles know triangles cannot be circles.

I have no interest in allowing the broken monkeys to define my culture.

But I do have it in my heart to pity them.

I frankly don’t care what they do behind closed doors. It is the normalization part that I am against. It is difficult enough to raise a straight laced boy without homosexuality being a normal practice. I guess we can expect the HIV/AIDS rate to spike. Lesbianism has been normalized for a long time. I got out of college 10 years ago and even back then most of the straight girls had at least experimented. If boys experiment like that disease is going to spread like wildfire. While I would like to teach my son to be respectful of other people and their choices, I don’t see any other option than teaching hate and digust if it gets to the point that straight boys are screwing each other in their youth because it is cool to experiment.

Where did Ddr. Mohler say tnhat Southern Baptist was going to accept same sex marriage? Having to deal with it doesn’t mean acceptance.

The PCA church that operated my school only married divorced people in limited circumstances, for example if there was adultery or abandonment in the previous marriage.

The more troubling question is this -— WILL CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATIONS ( e.g. Hospitals, Not-for-profits, etc ) be FORCED BY LAW to pay for the benefits of the “partners” of gays who are employed in their organizations ?

If there is coercion, then we are not a free country any longer.

The ramifications go beyond simply being “tolerant”.

There will be ‘next steps’, no doubt about it. What ‘rights’ will they push for next, I wonder. Polygamy? Bestiality? These people don’t stop. Once they reach a threshold, they immediately start pushing for the next one. They are never happy. This is why it is so important to keep them busy fighting the gay marriage line.

"...same-sex marriage is going to become normalized, legalized and recognized in the culture. It's time for Christians to start thinking about how we're going to deal with that,"

No. we fight it tooth and nail and go down swinging.
We have already ceded too much ground to the Adversary (abortion as exhibit No. 1) - we do NOT learn to "live with it".
STAND! (Ephesians 6:13)
