What is the prophetic understanding in Orthodoxy Judaism about Israel becoming a nation in 1948, and in going forward?

Hi Tarah! Well, from the Orthodox understanding it is a furthering of the geula or redemption. We are in the messianic era where the redemption can occur at any moment. We are close to the point, or at the point where a majority of Jews live in the land of Isrel. That is a critical point.

Rashi said, when you see the land of Israel giving forth it's fruit in abundance, the redemption is near. Clearly the barren land of Israel is giving forth it's fruit to the Jewish people now!

Rav Kook said: "Even out of the profane, the sacred will be revealed..... This will be the supreme marvel of the redemption."

So, nothing else needs to occur before final redemption. It can occur at any moment with the arrival of Elijah (something that didnt occur in Jesus time, JTB denied being Elijah and the Bible never mentions a second coming of Elijah either)

P-M, Tara is basing the 2018 on 1948 + 70 = 2018. That is because the bible says that the length of human life is 3 score and 10 = 70.

Well, if Tara is right, then we are in the Tribulation right now.

Last time I looked, I hadn't been raptured, so either the Church is going to go through the Tribulation or Tara is wrong. Or maybe it already happened and we missed it. Maybe we're the "Left Behind" congregation.

Nothing prophetic per se. I was just people caught up in end time prophesies back then. They saw Hitler as the anti-Christ. They were even able somehow to get 666 into his name. In the late 1800's there were many revivals and people wearing white ascension robes. The Seventh Day Adventist Ellen G. White talked about it. Every so often people tried to plug in current events into prophesy and they always were wrong. So even today I read where people are trying to plug in current events into prophesy. We've had wars (literally hundreds, big small), rumors of wars, earthquakes, pestilence, any number of things that were prophesied as to the end times. Before the word "Rapture" was popularized by Hal Lindsey in his book "The Late Great Planet Earth" people spoke of "being caught up" "the meeting in the air" - there's a popular hymn by that name.

In the Second Coming, Yashua is coming back for His church, one, and the second reason is? He's coming to stay, not take the church up then come back a third time. We will meet Him in the air to be forever with Him as He continues His decent to earth.

Well, for those of us who take a prewrath view, which has the Second Coming and Rapture at least six months before the end of the 70th Week, a 2018 Parousia could give us a starting point anytime in the next three years.

On the other hand, this is the same logic that gave us the infamous 88 Reasons. Why count forward from 1948? Why not 1967, when Israel recaptured Jerusalem, since one can also make the case the it is Jerusalem, not Israel, that is symbolized by the fig tree?

How about if we shelve the date-setting until somebody can point to some specific fulfillments of prophecy, e.g., an individual who simultaneously comes from the Roman, Greek, Babylonian, and Assyrian empires confirming a covenant "with many," including Israel for seven years, or the rebuilding of the Temple? It just makes it easier for the world to mock.

Okay, what is Yashua doing when He comes and we meet Him in the air.

Jesus is removing His Church before He sends the judgments which will occur during the Tribulation.

Where are those people going

Christians who are taken out at the Rapture go directly to heaven where we are presented before God the Father and established in eternal and unblameable holiness by God. The judgment of believer’s works takes place at this time. From that time on, we literally become the saints of the most high God forever. Death and Hell no longer has power over us and we shall rule the earth with our Lord Jesus Christ at His return with a rod of iron (Rev 20:1-6).

So Yashua is coming three times? No Second Coming? He's coming three times? First time He was the Suffering Messiah, then the Conquering Messiah (the Second Coming), the third time He's what?

The Rapture, or "Being caught up", is to be forever with Yashua. So where is Yashua going when He comes the second time?
