Truly a low point in American Catholic history; was it Archbishop Sheen who said it was better for our children to be forced to defend their faith at public schools than to lose their faith in Catholic schools?

But unlike Harvard or Yale, Northwestern or Southern Cal, all once Christian universities but now secular schools, Notre Dame has the weapon to combat all heresies; namely Notre Dame Herself. The modernists may have their day, but, like the song says, Notre Dame will win over all. For the modern infidels to take control here, they would have to blow our dame off the dome, rip the heart (the Eucharist) out of Sacred Heart and lastly, rock by rock, tear the grotto apart. And legions of Her sons and daughters would willingly die martyrs before they would allow that to happen. --Tom O'Toole, "Upon These Rocks"
Interesting post. Will you be writing Rome on Fr. Jenkins soon? :):)
Tom started "
Suffering Irish" many years ago, as an apostolate whereby folks could offer up their sufferings/prayers for the University of Notre Dame. We've sold some t-shirts, but only a few people have left their names/emails to be added to the members list.
Tom had been working on a book (with Charles E. Rice's encouragement) called "Saving Notre Dame" but other things halted the progress; hopefully he can get that back into swing. I think folks feel that UND can just be cast into the secular pool, and there will be no bad repercussions from that, but IMO that's not true, and the college needs to be saved, and, of course, so does Jenkins (it's kind of you to be concerned for his soul).
