For Steubenville, a Bigger Funnel -- Ohio's Conlon to Joliet (Bishop of Steubenville to Joliet)
Whispers in the Loggia ^ | May 17, 2011 | Rocco Palmo

Posted on 05/17/2011 7:27:26 AM PDT by Hieronymus

Full post to come, but for now, at Roman Noon today, B16 named Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, 63, head of Ohio's Steubenville church since 2002, as bishop of Joliet.

In the suburban Chicagoland post -- whose 660,000-some Catholics comprise roughly 17 times the size of Conlon's current fold -- the incoming point-man for the USCCB's child and youth protection efforts succeeds Peter Sartain, who was launched to the archbishopric of Seattle last September.

A native of Cincinnati and alum in the canons from St Paul's in Ottawa, the appointee served in parish work and as Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk's chancellor prior to his cross-state move. Crucially, he's said to speak Spanish -- an increasingly key skill in the Joliet diocese, whose Latino contingent has spiked over recent years.

The move keeping the number of vacant Stateside Latin sees at six, Conlon's installation has been scheduled for 14 July in Joliet's Cathedral of St Raymond Nonnatus.

Again, more to come.

Probably will be someone who is not currently a Bishop.

Most likely, unless some one has inherited an auxillary that he would like to be rid of. Probably some one who will be friendly to Franciscan.

One must wonder how many observant Catholics are left after that pervert Imesch left. What a disgrace. A few more to go like in Albany and Rochester and the Church will be free of these apostates.

I think Benedict is the instrument chosen to cleanse the institution and he will be here fully functioning for a while. He has a definitive purpose which will be on its way to completion before his death.

This is the diocese we are relocating to this summer. I will be watching this with much interest. My husband is already in the area (since November) and is very happy with the parish in the town we’ll be living in.

My post wasn’t clear—we are moving to the Steubenville Diocese, not Joliet ;)

I wonder if they might merge with Youngstown or Columbus. Steubenville is by far the smallest of the six Ohio Dioceses. In terms of Catholic population, these are the three smallest sees in Ohio, and Steubenville is by far the smallest (one sixth the size of Youngstown and one seventh the size of Columbus).

At first I was happy to see this, but now I am worried that we might get someone worse. Please do not send another obama butt-kisser who shuts down churches and then tells us God wants $9 million for a new cathedral!

Is that why the new English Mass translation was put off another year? Our of consideration for Trautman's hurt feelings?

Our parish priest said we'll be seeing this coming Advent--unless they manage to delay it again.

Trautperson needs to be publicly humiliated for the damage he has done through the years.

I suggest a public interrogation be conducted concerning his activities as bishop and liturgist followed by an exorcism. Hang him first , try him later. Is it the christian thing to do?

There is a great excommunication scene in the movie Becket. Perhaps if it were done in Latin while using an inclusive language translation in the program, everyone might be satisfied, if not completely happy . . .

They just don’t do things like they did in the old days. . . sigh.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that even in the old days they did it this way-the theology is off—but it is a great scene.
