Why did Jesus commend Mary to John's care as he was hanging on the cross, if she had other children to take care of her?
Good point, I’ll have to pray, read and think on that one for awhile.
Because he was there, and the brothers and sisters were not?
Why would Jesus have waited until his last moments to actually find someone to take care of his mother, if he didn’t know she had a husband and family to actually take care of her?
Why would Jesus worry about who was going to take care of his Mother, if she was really the blessed virgin and under the direct care of his father?
Maybe Jesus just didn’t want the haters of Him who were in the crowd to realise Mary was his mother, and possibly lash out at her, so he said out loud that she was John’s mother.
That makes more sense than thinking Jesus left the critical care of his mother to a last-minute chance encounter with John while hung on a cross.
(Matthew 12:46-50, NKJV) "While He (Jesus) was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. Then one said to Him, 'Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.'
"But He answered and said to the one who told Him, 'Who is My mother and who are My brothers?' And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, 'Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.'
Also, Jesus said, Matthew 13:57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."
Could it have been that his own half brothers and sisters didn't believe He was the son of God? Could some of them have even been jealous of Him?
