There were several youth who brought up gifts to represent the 5 continents. One brought rice (pope blessed it), another brought corn (pope blessed it), this young man handed him a hat. Rather than bless it, he just put it on his head and then removed it. Naturally, the media grabbed the opportunity to taunt the pope and his actions.
Does it really matter whether or not he analyzed the shape of the hat and how it should be worn? Another youth offered him a flower lei which he also put on and then removed. Unlike the media, the youth truly appreciated these gestures.
