It looks like light sabers and long beards wouldn't work together well.

That just shows their level of competency.

Just like how the cape doesn’t hamper the Batman.

Or will they become Dark Lords?

They will announce that either October 3rd, October 17th, November 6th or January 44th.

They are holding their Jedi cards close to the vest.

They did not beocme Jedi Knights. The Jedi Knights copied them. Besides, being Jedi would be a demotion for these guys.

So Marcion would be an example of a Sith Lord?

The way I understand it, the Star Wars Jedi were based upon the Bene Gesserit order in Dune, which itself was based on the Jesuit order in the Catholic Church, so they are not that far off.

That's not the way I heard it! The Jedi are based upon Presbyterians. I'm guessing that means the Sith are the Catholics, an analogy which has some support due to the coincidental physical resemblance between Palpatine and Benedict XVI:
I Was Just Made By The Presbyterian Church
The Presbyterian Church Like Enjoys You Not

Do Not Want To Be Catholic

based upon Presbyterians?

you mean like your group? Yet the jedi are not those celebrating gay marriage and "abortion is a blessing".

I think it would be great if the Orthodox monks wield their sword of orthodoxy to help clear away the evils of secularism.

“I was just made by the Presbyterians”? Eh? The PCUSA’s gay marriage deal?

That’s why Obi-Wan picked Tatooine to lay low on, it reminded him of the tradition of the Eastern Desert Fathers.

As an aside, I often wondered why they just didn’t make lightsabers 10 miles long and put them on spaceships. I mean, how easy would it be to take out the death star then?

I've long heard that the Jedi were based on the Jesuits. (Just look at the way Luke Skywalker dresses by Return of the Jedi.) And believe me, having gone to a Jesuit college, Yoda and Obi Wan's disciplining is heavily based on the Ignatian steps. (No, the Jesuits were not Buddhist syncretists, however... that comes from Star Wars' reliance on a Kirisawa movie.)

Star Wars also is based significantly on "Dune." (Jabba the Hutt was a giant slug-like creature, who fought to control the spice trade of a desert planet, whose human inhabitants were "moisture farmers.")

But to say that the Jedi were based on the Bene Gesserit has one gigantic flaw: The Bene Geserrit "witches" were exclusively women.

Humorous comparison: If Star Wars is based on Dune, then you also have to know that much of Dune is based Islamic. The Jawas, then, are those who live in the monastery (Yes, Jaba's palace was explicitly a monastery) which is now under Islamic domination. This would make the Jawas Franciscans. Of those who would be so unserious and competitive, Jesuits love to tweak Franciscans.

This is a Franciscan.

This is a Jawa:

Do you detect a tweak?

I wouldn't call that gigantic, after all George Lucas had to change some things, or else he might get sued. Or he could have just called it Dune: With Lightsabers.

I have previously described Star Wars as a good film adaptation of Dune, not as a complaint that Lucas ripped off a lot of the ideas from it, but as an admission that the book Dune is way too complex for a two hour film. Lucas knew which parts to keep, added in light sabers and space battles, and what became unfilmable becomes a mega film hit. The difference in audience reception between the 1984 film Dune and Star Wars supports Lucas.

(But I still like the Dune books)
