Imagining a vain thing: We are the ones weve been waiting for.
This may be what one of a Greek mindset thinks of, however, YHVH was not talking about personal vanity. He was talking about taking His name & His commandments and making them worthless, making them to mean nothing.
Psa 2:1 WhyH4100 do the heathenH1471 rage,H7283 and the peopleH3816 imagineH1897 a vain thing?H7385
Psa 2:2 The kingsH4428 of the earthH776 set themselves,H3320 and the rulersH7336 take counselH3245 together,H3162 againstH5921 the LORD,H3068 and againstH5921 his anointed,H4899 saying,
Psa 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder,H5423 (H853) H4147 and cast awayH7993 their cordsH5688 fromH4480 us.
Strong's H7385
reek
From H7324; emptiness; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain: - empty, to no purpose
Thus, when YHVH says they have taken counsel against He & His anointed, He is telling us that these heathen rulers held His Torah as worthless, thus replacing His Laws with their own. Hence the reference to cords as in cords that bind a people together under the bondage of heathen rulers.
I understand your point. I think that when Obama said, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” he was really trying to say, without appearing completely outrageous, “I am the one you’ve been waiting for.”
In other words, isn’t he trying to take the place of one who was sent by some higher power, ie, a messiah? And yet, he does not appear to believe in the God of the Bible, judging by his words, actions, and associations.
I think he believes he has all the answers, and that he can run things properly if given enough power, and he doesn’t need God to help him. In fact, those who “cling to God” are blocking him from achieving his goals. Is he not striving against God, with the idea that he can supplant God and His annointed? I believe, when he says, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” that that is exactly what he envisions himself doing.
