Featured Term (selected at random):
Protestant denominations in the Congregational tradition. They were called Free Churches originally because of their emphasis on freedom from any binding creeds, but also because they believe that each church is essentially free from any ecclesiastical authority above the local congregation.
**free from any ecclesiastical authority**
Even the authority of God?

Can also refer to bodies not affiliated with the established (state) church.
I’m trying to think of a country where a state church does exist. All I’m coming up with is China.
Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Finland have state churches (Lutheran). And of course there is also the Church of England (Anglican).
But I have read that England is losing the Aanglican Churches as they go with the ordinariate and become Catholic.
I wasn’t aware of the others since I believe there are also other churches (Catholic) in those countries, but perhaps I am mistaken.
Of course, we have the Saudi and Mid East area too where both Catholic and Christian churches are being destroyed and the people killed.
Yes, there are other churches in those countries (as far as I know) ... but what I thought you were asking was which countries have an ‘official’ state church, not necessarily countries that don’t allow any other churches to operate.
Sorry if I misunderstood what you were asking :)

Northern Europe is thick with them.
